It would be great to see this develop soon. Especially some of the taller and larger buildings. I just hope they can get a world class architect for everything...because some of those current state buildings look like they came from communist Russia

Yep. Some of Austin's few examples of Brutalist architecture is in the Capitol complex.

Every period has it more or less successful architecture. I am thinking that the private/public options may yield better results! One thing the project has going for it is that Terry Keel (of "Terry-town") lives in Cambridge. This will affect his neighborhood. And I think you can count on the self interest! LOL!

I saw that on DAB earlier. I absolutely love the architecture.

The simple schematics on DAB state that 1" is equal to 50 feet. The building would then be just slightly over 200 feet. However, in the 3 dimensional renderings the building is presented as being just slightly taller than half of Frost (which would suggest a height of 260-270). I'm inclined to believe the schematic.

It is such a handsome tower. Yeah, it seems they've raised the height a bit. I think it will really help the future of Congress Ave.

They over did it on the rendering then if that building is only going to be around 270 feet. I mean comparing it to the surrounding buildings like the One American Center, this tower looks to be well over 400 feet LOL...

Agree on both points... I love the tower design and it does look taller.

I was looking for a time line.... did anyone see a date?

The target opening date is late 2012 according the the Statesman article from last May. That was when the project didn't need any variances.

Sweet! The original proposal was only calling for a 15-story tower that probably would have been around 160 feet tall. This one is 26 floors according to Downtown Austin Blog. On the height, I'm thinking it's 270 feet to 280 feet tall. 301 Congress which is the tower on Congress Avenue, south of Frost, is 306 feet tall to the top of the angled glass. The main roof of 301 Congress is 287 feet tall (below the angled glass). This tower looks to be about level with the main roof. It might even be around 285 feet tall. If that's the case it would actually be our tallest "all hotel use" building. The W and the Hilton are both taller, but they share their space with condos. And the next two tallest hotels are the Omni and Hyatt. The Omni is a good 50 feet shorter than this and the Hyatt is only 189 feet tall.

Here is the other rendering/model we were talking about. It's about 280 feet tall according to this. From what I can tell the scale of this model is right. All the buildings look accurate.

Would be nice to see that thing get built! (and ASAP)

Btw, what's the deal with the new Central Library?? Didn't we vote on that a few years ago already? Interactive map link of Seaholm redevelopment shows it won't be up till 2015 -geeze laweeze!

That hotel looks fantastic! (Although when it's 26 stories and 130 rooms, is it still "boutique"?) Definitely have fingers crossed on this one.

Mid block construction sounds tricky

How is mid block construction logistically pulled off? Where does the crane go? Where will the materials staging area be? Will the developers lease the adjacent parking lot and transfer building materials over the heads of its neighbors? How does the foundation of a 3 story building support 20 more floors above it? Are there any engineers out there reading this?
