My business is in Deep Ellum, which is in the shadows of Downtown Dallas on its east side and the American Airlines Center (AAC) is on the west side of Downtown Dallas so it would be pretty easy for me to get there.

Is there a good vantage point of the high-five interchange that anyone would recommend? Its a pretty impressive piece of infrastructure.

PLEASE avoid Spring Creek. If you want the generic, sterile, chain-BBQ experience, have at. Otherwise, I'd suggest Hard Eight (Coppell) or Coopers (Ft Worth). Best in Dallas city limits is prob Back Country BBQ, but their sauce is too watery. Chains simply don't cut it if you want REAL bbq, IMO, but I avoid all chains like the plague. Dallas council members unveil plan for pedestrian-friendly stretch of Greenville Avenue

Dallas City Council members Angela Hunt and Pauline Medrano announced this morning that construction will begin next summer on a $1.3 million "streetscaping" project on Lowest Greenville.

The two-block project will include wide sidewalks with more room for restaurant patios; new streetlamps, trees and bike racks; and a narrowing of the street from four lanes to two to slow traffic. It will be long Greenville between Bell and Alta avenues.

The intent is to build a pedestrian-friendly strip that will attract a mix of retail and restaurants to help revitalize Greenville between Belmont and Ross avenues. That area has been plagued in recent years by late-night crimes attributed to unruly bar patrons.

The street plan is expected to be complete by the end of next year.

In addition to that announcement, Jonathon Hetzel, who represents Madison Partners, announced plans to turn the acre where the old Arcadia Theater burned several years ago into a food park, where chefs can park their Airstreams and trailers to serve up food in a park-like setting. He said Madison Partners is working on the city to get the proper permits for that project.

The streetscraping project, which will be funded through a 2006 bond package, is part of a two-prong approach to change the mix of business on that strip of Greenville.

Hunt and Medrano are also proposing a city ordinance to require a special use permit for any business open after midnight in the retail and restaurant strip along the southern blocks of the Greenville near Ross Avenue. Under the plan, businesses perceived to be contributing to problems could be reviewed periodically and could lose their permits to operate.

The ordinance establishing a special district for the permits would have to be approved by the City Council. The Plan Commission is to vote on the plan in December.

Neighborhood representatives and business owners received details about the proposed planned development district earlier in the year. Some have expressed concern about the proposal because it would apply to all businesses, even those with no history of problems. The businesses would have to pay fees associated with the permit and deal with more city red tape.

For years, the city has struggled, with little success, to find ways to end the late-night problems on Lowest Greenville. Each weekend, the police set up along the strip when the bars close to steer people out of the neighborhood, arrest drunks and break up fights. There have been several shootings this year, including two that were fatal.

Parkland sits on the west side of Harry Hines Blvd. The new campus will sit on the east side, in between Harry Hines and the new Green line extension of DART.

Thanks for that clarification! I was trying to wrap my head around the actual placement of the new buildings around the old and I just wasn't coming up with enough free land.... now it makes sense. Is there still a skybridge across Henry Hines and will it be incorporated into the new campus?

Some great projects going on in Dallas that will definitley enhance the quality of life. I like the I-30 bridge better than the taller one.

The first bridge is actually a lot smaller in person, IMO. Drive by it almost every day. Still don't know why they built that one first. That money could have went elsewhere (I-30 bridge?). That bridge currently is like a bridge to nowhere.

Agreed. Much rather would have seen I-30 or I-35 done first. The bridge goes pretty much nowhere now, but there are big plans to redevelop West Dallas.
