I really liked that video. This will for sure be a good project for Edmonton. I wish that some Ontario cities would get some LRT lines.

Looks like the Eglinton line is the only part of Transit City that may survive.

The good news is that it looks like they will make it go underground for more of the route to keep it off the street.
It has already been scheduled to have a 12 km central section go underground. Anything else is bonus I guess.

Here is the old rendering of the cars above ground

Metrobus Transit in St. John's have been on strike now for over two months and for the most part the majority of people don't give a shit. Negotiations between the union and the management are back on now but t's hard to say when or how it will end, without little or any public support the union is kind of screwed.

How LRT might look This illustration shows an artist's conception of LRT trains moving along King Street West, near Hess and Caroline streets.

City of Hamilton is gearing up for B-Line LRT funding for the 2011 Budget. The EA is complete and will be released next week.

^Cool. I don't know much about London, but why would UWO not be included in the network? Is it difficult to include as part of a natural corridor?

Also, I assume this would be some form of BRT to start. Is there any timeline for this?

It seems very strange to divert rapid transit off of the Dundas corridor, just to serve Fanshawe College, and yet completely ignore UWO, a much larger school.

Wow, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, Brampton, Mississauga and Hamilton are all in line to get their Rapid Transit lines, in short order and simultanously. THAT IS SERIOUS.

Are primarily street grade LRT projects considered "rapid transit?" I think they are more simply "mass transit."

Calgary's C train could be considered mass transit because so much of it has its own complete ROW, now including elevated and tunneled portions.

These lines are in ROWs and with priority lighting as well. Am I mistaken? That doesnt count as LRT?

The route is not grade-separated, they still have to deal with street lights and intersections, so it is NOT true rapid transit.

Good riddance I say. The whole Transit City proposal was misguided from the start; the ideas would have worked nicely somewhere like London or Hamilton, but Toronto is simply too big and too congested to have glorified streetcars serving as the "rapid transit" backbone, especially to far-flung areas in the inner ring of suburbs. With any luck this section will turn into the much-needed Eglinton subway.

The underground sections had the right idea, but if you're going to spend the money to tunnel underneath, why not just go the extra mile and invest in heavy rail? It's done wonders along the Sheppard corridor (contrary to what all the pessimists and downtown bubble-boys over at blogTO seem to think), I'm certain you'd see some substantial urban renewal along the piece of shit that is Eglinton West.

Hamilton's LRT will have those signal street lights. If LRT approachs a street light it'll automatically switch to green. The entire route will take 30 minutes from Eastgate to McMaster.
