Ha, the sarcasm flew over my head then!

I too am glad the towers were dismantled. I've always thought if they are going to build a new tallest building in Atlanta that this would be the site since it's already zoned for the tall height of the former tower. Wouldn't it be nice....

Historic Westside Village signs on Wal-Mart.

ABC: Walmart Comes to Historic Westside Village

This was a development by a firm partnered by a past teacher of mine, so I was interested. A grocer vacated the spot, and now Wal-Mart is filling in with a smaller, more urban store.

The development is mixed use across from the MARTA Ashby station near Morehouse and Clark. It features affordable condos and townhomes and retail space surrounding a garage.

That man sounds bat sh*t crazy.
It sounds like the shelter escaped eviction once again, but I can't find any confirmation from the AJC, the court itself, or anywhere else. The best I can find is that they just opened a free "coffee shop" on the peachtree side of the building.

BTW are there any big projects skyscrapers and high-rises going up in Atlanta? Been a long time with no updates, or is construction dead in the city?

CDC is continuing construction on some new buildings, but nothing over 12 floors. Cox Communications is putting up a new building in perimeter, probably in the 15 to 20 story range.

Pretty much everything else is stalled out or canceled. There are a few small projects going up here and there, like additions to Town Brookhaven and new apartments near Emory, but nothing major.

My favorite thing about SOB is the Hermes that was hung out to dry.

I wonder if people even know that store is there. It's probably the least visited store in ATL.

Driving through the city today (my first visit back in a while) I noticed that 171 17th Street - previously the Southtrust building and then the Wachovia building - now has its newest moniker on the top: "Wells Fargo."

The clunky text, spelled out in golden yellow letters, and red logo look horrible on top of that tower. At least the previous signage attempted to match the tones of the building - but the combination of blues, greens, red, and yellow looks more like vomit than anything. Disappointing.

In other news, however, a lot of smaller things seem to be coming along. Retail space has been leased at Peachtree Pointe (a shop called London Calling, among others), sidewalks upgraded in lots of places, a new Waffle House opened in Tech Square (if only it were there when I was a student...), and the city still looks remarkable green for late December.

But for the Wells Fargo debacle, things are moving in the right direction - as usual in this city, as of late.

GSU PICKS SITE FOR B and LAW SCHOOLS

According to The Atlanta Business Chronicle,Georgia State University has picked the site for two new mid-rise buildings to house its growing law and business schools.

Georgia State recently purchased about 2.4 acres at John Wesley Dobbs and Park Place, on the north side of Robert W. Woodruff Park. GSU paid $17.8 million for the site, or roughly $7.2 million an acre (or about $169 per land square foot), according to the university and Databank Inc., which tracks metro Atlanta real estate transactions.

Great news! This will replace another surface parking lot.

GSU continues to impress with their belief in Downtown.

Yeah. I don't think there was a dry vomit bag in anyone's car when they put that atrocity of a sign up. Looks absolutely horrid. I loved wachovia, and now am going to change from Wells Fargo simply because of that stupid sign being so ugly.

What's really stupid, a sign or someone who changes banks because of an ugly building?

Wachovia did nothing to 'match the tones of the building'. It was their colorway which just happened to match.

Should Wells Fargo change their entire brand to match one building in Atlanta? No but they should change it in general because I do agree their logo and swatch itself is ugly.

All of this is pretty off topic to actual high rise construction in Atlanta.

Perimeter Mid-rise pics

I was around Perimeter today and noticed this new Apartment midrise. If Perimeter could see another 20-30 of these types of developments pop up, we'd be looking at a very impressive city satellite.

Location is roughly....6405 Peachtree Dunwoody Road Northeast

And a rather HUGE parking lot at that. Is it the entire block, including the part facing Williams St and Peachtree Center Av? Cant wait to see designs and more info on height and what not.

I think so. That tract looks to be about 2+ acres.
