What is this:

"...a new office development offering a large footprint on the edge of the downtown area"

Is this the lowrise proposal for 11th and Albert? It does not have a particularly large footprint?

Yah ---- they are moving pretty damn quick on that!!!!! They're all assembled in prefabricated sections (hence the massive crane). I think that they are condos as opposed to offices. Aren't the offices supposed to be 3 storeys each (and closer towards the airport)?

Ya i'm not sure either...they look more like condos (residential bldg at least) but i don't think u can get much closer to the airport. I'll have to drive out there in daylight and take a closer look.

Some of the column lights at City Square are now operational. They look pretty good. I only had my cell phone and it was hard to keep steady in the dark.

Maybe Migs can come out get get some good night shots with his SLR and tripod.

Pretty much everything you said goes against modern planning practices with respect to road design.
Exactly! Wider roads are not the answer. People just end up crashing faster.......and then jumping the curb into pedestrians.

Let me guess, you're a long time NDP supporter too...
Dont be so dramatic. Im sure you can reach a balance of narrow and wide roads. There are enough wide roads in Regina already. Lol, I bet you want that pedestrain street converted back to a car street as well.

Wow, theres always one of these guys in these forums going against everyone else. Maybe join a road and car forum instead?

  • Interchange Highway No. 1 and Lewvan Dr
  • Parliament Ave Extension (Argyle St. to Lewvan Dr.)
  • Victoria Ave East (Fleet St. to City Limits)
So, does this mean that we will be enjoying a 4-lane road from McCarthy to West-bypass after 2011? Or will it just be a re-surface of the two-lane road all the way out to the new By-pass? I am hoping for the first option, atleast between McCarthy and Courtney, anything past that would just be a bonus. As well traffic signals at Courtney and 9th N will be needed.

No kidding right. But the strangest thing to me about the whole 9th N Expansion out to West-Bypass is the lack on the long-term plan of an interchange at that intersection. Either by the city or by highways. Hopefully this changes, or it might end up like the intersections of Hwy 11 and Pasqua, or Hwy 1 and Lewvan, before they decided to put in the interchanges (amount of accidents at those intersections)

Yes, this site is full of architecture and planning proffesionals. They know how a successful city is designed. We need to reach a balance with cars and people.

Finishing the bike trail underneath Vic East should hopefully make those of you who do prefer other methods of transportation happy.
Oh it will change, dont worry about that. As cities grow, so does the overall urban mentality. Beautiful cities are not judged on how good the road system is. I am actaully amazed at how much of a big city look Regina already has! There are cities in the USA with the same population as Regina and they are nothing but big box stores, suburbs and a small historic main street with no tall buildings....talk about boring!

There is nothing better than being able to bypass rush hour on a beautiful bike path every morning and afternoon. Not that Regina really has a problem with traffic......lol. Regina has an aggressive inner city plan so get ready for some pro-pedestrian and cylcits infrastructure.

I wouldn't say the amount on infill has been staggering. Certainly compared to 10 years ago, yes....but we still need a better balance of infill to greenfield.

And yes, people will want single detached houses, and we should provide for that. However, the design of our new communities has a long way to go. They need to be mixed use, walkable, offer a variety of housing options and emphasize a greater focus on urban design.

The start of the Budget:

City of Regina municipal taxes among the lowest in Canada

According to the 2009 Edmonton Tax Survey – the most-recent study available – the City of Regina has the fourth lowest municipal property tax rates among the communities reviewed.

Across Canada, municipal tax per capita ranges from just over $500 to over $2,000 a year. Fredericton has the highest rates, at $2,173. Surry has the lowest, at $503. At the time of the study, Regina’s municipal tax per capita was $694 a year.

this is what I wrote for feedback:

I feel that your advertising is very misleading. Because you do not add in School Taxes and that you divide the entire population into what you gather in taxes it looks very adventageous to live here.
I am paying over 4200 per year in property tax (I have a family of four). This does include School taxes but does not include the 1,000 dollars in sewer and water. So now I am over 5000 in tax. A far cry from what your promotion says.

Yes, and I will be happy to ride my bike 4-5 months of the year.....wait......april to November this year so around 7 months. I am only 10 blocks away and it is perfect. I dont even need a shower becasue I dont break a sweat.

Regina has an amazing pathway system as well so more people should use it.
