That couldn't have been approved yet right...?
It's a multi-use building. Retail inluding a Rock Creek Bar and Grill on main and lofts above.

They must have really scaled back the size of this building. The footprint they have dug out is quite small. Maybe the majority of the building has no basement?

No if you look at the site plan there are several buildings. The one under construction just fronts Broad St. There is another future building immediately to the east, but in this picture the are so close they look like a single building.

It was approved as one building. They are likely doing it in phases with a fire wall in between.

My understanding is that it will be one building with underground parking only under the western portion. The site plan shown above is no longer accurate.

Word on the street is that the fencing will start going up for construction of the new Arcola School today. They are working on removing the play structures and have been pushing a lot of snow around lately.

Hopefully the Ministry of Ed is done holding these projects up and we can see some construction soon.

Hopefully this makes East Vic a bit more bearable! The idea of a pathway under Victoria Avenue alongside Pilot Butte Creek is interesting.

All the widening of Victoria Avenue East will do is allow for more vehicular traffic. Stop wasting money on meaningless construction and route the through-traffic south-east of the City.

At least Regina tax payers aren't completely stuck with the bill for expanding a road for national traffic. But I do agree with you babo.. I don't understand why we would widen Victoria when we could re-route all through traffic around the city, clearing up Vic ave for every day regional commuters.

Just think of it this way: Vic East will be very nice to drive on for us regular folk once the #1 Bypass is built in a few years. Imagine four lanes wide all the way to Quance with just local car traffic? Sweet.

I guess if you had $200 million + for the new bypass, then it would be an easy decision.

I commute from White City every day and do everything possible to avoid Vic East...especially in the winter. In the winter, it's not uncommon to take 45 minutes to get to the North End of Regina. I cross the #1 at the #48 junction and head in on the #46 highway. Traffic on that highway is really increasing now too.

He means Quance Gate (behind Superstore). When he said four lanes I assume he means four lanes each way like it is west of Coleman.

The bypass will get a lot of congestion off Vic, mostly the truck traffic. I mean having to slow for lights is much more of an ordeal for truckers. With Trucks taking the by-pass in time commutes on Vic will drop substantially. Not to mention the extra 1000+ Trucks a week on Vic after GTH gets into full swing.

So yes it will still be busy, but atleast accel will be quciker from Red lights.

Regina is so backwards in their road construction policies. These old school city planners have this idea that if roads stay narrow, it will piss people off and force them to choose other routes. Case in point: 20th Ave
If you can annoy people enough, they won't go that way anymore.

I say, the wider the road the better off we all are. Traffic or no traffic, the farther I can position myself away from other vehicles the safer I feel and the faster traffic moves. Expanding a 1km section of Vic East won't instantly cause people to have a lightbulb moment and go "Hey, let's stop taking our normal route and take Vic instead!" Traffic will remain as the same people who take it everyday IMHO.

I've already heard my buddy say that once Vic widens he'll take it instead of Arcola.
