I don't want to get my hopes up....

oh okay...

I'm now extremely EXCITED.

This could be epic. What an architecturally awesome gift it would be to get news that this project was moving forward.

I think Astani is only trying to secure funding for one phase of the project, which will probably be two or three phases. Worth considering when we talk dollars.

I don't know about you guys but Target, IMO, is going to increase foot traffic to 7th & Fig and do for shops around it more than Macy*s ever did. I'd like to see another department store, like Meiman, but a Barnes & Noble would be great too.

If so, that would amazing. I would hope it doesn't change much since this conception.

A bit sad that the second concerto tower is now pretty much dead it seems...I hope something good gets built there.
this is my favorite of all projects proposed for downtown LA and as a bonus, i live across the street with a perfect view of the lot. everyday i hope for opus to break ground because this project will single handedly change the entire area. 7th street will be tied into south park and will encourage the development of 8th street which i have advocated for here.

as a side note, we should all send this thread to Astani showing him how much we support the design. i hope nothing changes about it. its exciting, pedestrian friendly, a perfect mix of heights and density and has a pedestrian walkway through it. ideal.

Yeah, pretty much the perfect project. And to Colemonkey, some clarifications. When I said that the developer could do whatever he wanted with the second tower, I meant really that he could either build it or not build it. Also, I am fairly certain that the LED display was approved for the complex. I did forget about the debts that Astani has to pay off, so that could be a hamper for Opus. However, I think that the crappy approval process of L.A. might finally pay off, as I would think it would be too much of a pain to re-submit the project for approval.

Well, I dont know if it will happen before 2015, but hopefully we at least know what the expansion of union station to accommodate high speed rail will look like by then.

Hopefully, some more conversions in the Historic Core. Not to mention the new 7th + Fig and maybe (just maybe) the Grand Ave project. At least 1 phase of it.

oh no!! is astani going to be holding a stick with a carrot at the end of it, waving it in front of everyone, the way it seemed Meruelo was doing several months ago? I remember you & others posting about equipment that had been moved onto the vacant lot at 11th & grand. I ended up feeling like....

when it was learned that the bulldozer & framework for a crane weren't an early sign that work was about to start on a new tower across from eleven, but was only stuff being stored there temporarily.

I've read that astani is a big believer in the hood, so hopefully he's just as anxious as you, other forumers & I am to see that big deadzone south of the brockman bldg finally filled in. speaking of which, I'm still wondering when that bldg is going to be occupied above the first floor?! TG the brockman's bottega restaurant has boomed since it opened last yr. And so another reason I want to see opus finally break ground: although all the open space for parking that it would occupy is convenient, ppl going to places like the bottega restaurant deserve a nicer setting to walk to or from when south of 7th St.

im equally as excited for the streetscape improvements that this project will bring to the surrounding streets.

Westsidelife, i would add the Embassy Auditorium and possibly the tower they are supposed to build across the street.

Crews are working on the auditorium building everyday, although its moving at a snails pace. there is work going on in there, just not sure what.

^ Since you live in that area and see them everyday, why don't you just ask them what they're doing?

Libeskind tower.
Muerlo Madox (I always spell that wrong) tower.
Zen is supposed to break ground next year, though that was news from 2009. I guess they have one more year to go...
Grand Ave. Project is supposed to break ground before 2013, so there's that.
If you are counting the Expo Line, then I guess count the renovations to the NHM.
MOCA, also, wants to expand.
Also, the revised 1027 building, which is now a six-story low rise.

Now, that's it. As far as I know.

Pardon my ignorance, but if a project is scaled down -- say, a few stories are chopped off -- it doesn't have to re-enter the entitlement process again, does it?
