Hmmm, I like it!

I'll have to add Jameson to the list of future buildings I want to live in, the organic thing is quite nice too.

Point taken, but to be more accurate, the weighted average is $1,000 psf for the building. Most of the units on the east side are actually closer to $850 a square foot.

Jameson House definitely adds something to West Hastings. That part of Hastings, which includes the Marine Building and the old Royal Bank Tower has a mature, "established" feeling to it, rare in Vancouver. Even though the bay windows are very "ultra" and the sides and back are average, I think it adds to that "mature feeling" Hastings has, and that the rest of Vancouver could benefit from.

Just an off-hand observation from an overseas resident who was born and grew up in Vancouver, and still loves it.

I think that's behind the elevator core (limited width in the floorplate)
I think it's more a function of wanting to keep living space within the unit rather than taking it up with a balcony.

^yup... while balconies are great, most people of certain demos prefer usable inside space, even if a sunroom or the like.

They should have planned the interiors so that the full-bay balcony is actually half-bay balconies for 2 units. The upper floor units managed to do it. It just looks so stingy the way it is.

It's just enough balcony for a BBQ/hammock/bike/plant/smoker

no balcony at all just obliterates that important demographic, whereas people that just prefer more indoor space really only need storage space which they can rent elsewhere

They may need the exterior balcony space to comply with zoning bylaws - not sure if that applies to this area.

Do you think so? I know what you mean, yet I find the diagonal "slope" of the balcony layout gives the building a rather striking and unusual character.
It's a departure from the usual vertical-horizontal dynamic found in nearly all highrises.
