I just noticed the highrise boxes in the stadium render. Are those supposed to be constructed in that image of the construction area you gave us NYGUY?

If you mean those "ghost" images, then yeah.

I'm just waiting to get backlash on this comment, but what's with the towers in the park idea. Doesn't it look a little suburban? Urban renewal? Narrow fine grained NYC urban fabric demoed for what appears like a 1950's housing project.

If there really was all that space between those 'projects' I'd be pissed too. In the eastern portions some of it will be retail, not open space. BTW the eastern blocks were either rail yards or scarcely populated blocks, so really almost anything is better then what was there before.

What really concerns me is the elimination of pacific street by the eastern residential portion.

That was the only real block eliminated, though I forget what the exact reasons were. But I would also take almost anything over the vast nothingness that was there before.

Are the New Jersey Nets becoming the 'Brooklyn New Yorkers'?
By Kelly Dwyer

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_do...s-becoming-the-Brooklyn-N?urn=nba-295887

Quote:
There are signs the New Jersey Nets are considering renaming themselves the "Brooklyn New Yorkers" in two years when they move from Jersey to the NYC metropolitan area, and we just can't help but wonder if the Nets, or New Yorkers, are a lot better than this.

Two Philadelphia lawyers have filed for trademark protection for the name, along with three possible logos.

NetsDaily did a little digging, and this is what it came up with:

The logos, more concepts than finished drawings, make it clear the trademarks are for a Brooklyn basketball team. In one, a basketball player straddles the Brooklyn Bridge. In another, the words, "Brooklyn New Yorkers" fronts a basketball featuring a world map while in a third, another version of "Brooklyn New Yorkers" is imposed on a basketball. The Patent and Trademark Office continues to review the applications.

The decision to seek trademark protection around the time the team informed the NBA it would be changing its name from the "New Jersey Nets". The NBA requires a team to file two years prior to a name change but it does not require a team to state what the new name will be. Under an agreement with the Empire State Development Corp., the Nets' new name must include either "Brooklyn" or "New York" in its name.

This is where I have to remind you that the Nets are under no obligation to change their name, because they've been the New York Nets before. The franchise was originally an ABA team that played out in Long Island, named the "Nets" so as to fit in with the already-established New York Jets, and New York Mets. "Nets" never was, and doesn't have to be, a Jersey thing.

That is one of the most unimaginative profssional sports franchise names I have ever heard. Sounds lame. I think they are trying to get both the new york and brooklyn fan base by incorperating both names. Sounds terrible. Hope they come up with something more distinctive and creative. Thats just my opinion.

The Brooklyn New Yorkers isn't a bad sounding name. Calling them the Brooklyn Nets will sound weird and awkward I think. They need to do a lot of work on that logo.

There's already the Mets, the Jets, and the Nets...

I think the Nets can change their name.

I really hope they not going to call it "Brooklyn New Yorkers". It just doesn't sound right.

It's a mouthful, lol. But I guess it's supposed to be a clever take on the "Knickerbockers", which we know is another, alternative name for New Yorkers. But the New York Knickerbockers from the Garden are more commonly called the "Knicks". I don't know how you shorten "New Yorkers". The Brooklyn Yorks?

Slam Doink: Other Names for the Brooklyn New Yorkers

By Matt Chaban
December 15, 2010

Quote:
In case you hadn't heard, the New Jersey Nets will be coming to Brooklyn the season after next. Up until now, they have often been referred to as the Brooklyn Nets, but a name change is in the works, and it looks like it will be a terrible one. According to Nets Daily, the team may well be known as the Brooklyn New Yorkers. As if that weren't bad enough, the associated copyright filings include gratutiously graffiti'd logos.

Considering the copyright comes from a Philadelphia law firm, it is clearly lacking in the necessary New York wit. With that in mind, The Observer has some suggestions, and hopes you will share your own in the comments (along with any spam):

•The Brooklyn Bagels
•The Brooklyn Fixies
•The Brooklyn Nyets
•The Brooklyn Blueprints
•The Brooklyn Deckers
•The Gowanus Monsters
•The Brooklyn Brownstones
•The Brobos
•The Bedford Stuyvesants
•The Brooklyn Bodegas
•The Brooklyn Flannels
•The Brooklyn Queens Expressways
•The Brooklyn Techs
•The Park Slope Strollers
•The Brooklyn Camels
•The Brooklyn Bee Keepers

If they're giving up Nets they have to be the Brooklyn Knights for a Brooklynite.

The Brooklyn Bagels? The Brooklyn Camels? Lmao Really?
Brooklyn Knights sound the best by far, but unfortunately there is already soccer team in Brooklyn with that name.

I'm sure those suggestions weren't meant to be taken seriously. Were it not already taken, the Brooklyn KINGS would probably be the best name. I'm convinced the "New Yorkers", if it goes through, was just another slap at the "Knickerbockers". I like the ring of the "Brooklyn Bridge" or the "Brooklyn Bums" or the "Brooklyn Ballers", but those likely would be seriously considered either.

Back in the late 1800's there was a baseball team called the Brooklyn Atlantics. Would be a cool name. It's relevant to brookyn and somewhat original, i guess.

Excellent! When I first heard about the name, the only reason I was against it at first was because I want them to keep NETS. I've always liked that name (its simple, small, and to the point) and I thought it best represents the team given thats what theyve been called during all these Finals runs they made in the early 2000s.

However, I think that they will give it up, and maybe the history too (not sure tho), because there's a new belief that Newark may want a future team down the road although I find that to be quite tough given that 3 teams in a market is a lot of we're seeing stars like Carmelo not wanting to go there. But with that being said, I would like to see NETS and their history left in Jersey and this team become the Brooklyn Knights with Black, Yellow, a small amount of gray, and white.
