I an't say I'm sad to see this place gone. Can't wait to see the building built and start more work on redeveloping my old neighbourhood.

Yeah, that church was kinda ugly IMO.

I think the pink building in behind this development would look better if fixed up, maybe painted another colour.

Went by the site and that is one hell of a pile of rubble. THe church must of been larger than it looked from the street.

I took a few cell phone pics this morning. Horrible quality but it is just a pile of dirt.

Walked by here today. Everything is cleaned up & gone. They have started putting up what appears to be chain link fence posts along the perimeter of the site.

I certainly wish that they would have kept the initial design with the curved glass section (from page 1 of this thread)

Yes, the steep roof building is the one that's gone. I believe that is the only one that was torn down.

There were actually 3 buildings on the property. The steep church structure, priests residence (which would be to the left of the church looking straight at the site from the Bank of Nova scotia) and then the church hall/office in the back. My aunt and a few cousins organized and ran the bingo that was there every Tuesday night.

My mother and I were talking about this during our weekly Sunday night phone call (we try to talk often, but Sunday is absolute). She and I both agree that it's better the church is gone.

I'm still disappointed that this development isn't more pedestrian-oriented. I accept the need for parking and so on but there's no excuse not to have a good street presence along Dutch Village Road, an established commercial area. It's like the city is just asleep at the wheel when it comes to planning. I don't think the developers even think about these issues much, and there's pressure from the public to go with less density - setbacks are encouraged.

Still, it will be nice to have another highrise to go along with the new building on Bayers Road (and I guess the Bedford Highway tower is also not far). I've always liked the little apartment building farther up the hill.

From what I've seen thus far, this isn't very good. That it's better than what's there now is of little consolation and shouldn't be the measuring stick used to judge whether a project is good enough.

This rendering looks quite good. (The last rendering posted on the HRM website looked very unappealing). Hopefully it will turn out well.

As a former Fairview-ite; I think at this point I'd accept anything to help bring back the old glory to Fairview! I still can't believe they pulled up the rails and paved it - I remember when I was a kid in boy scouts at the Anglican church (which is now the Shoppers) how excited I'd get about the train going by!

Personally - I like the fact they are paying homage to the former church though. I like that.

I like the look of this. There is lots more room up the street for more development as well. This will bring new life into that area.
