Hey Zen:

When there is a 400 or 500 ton spire on the roof does the buildings own steel beams get placed in a way to connect to the spire to support it. And is this the way that broadcast towers and spires are mounted on roofs.

The spire sits directly on the concrete core and the core takes all of the gravity load of the spire. The wind load is distributed to the perimeter "wind frames" by the 8 six inch diameter Kevlar stay cables. Kevlar because it is invisible to EM transmissions.

Each tower is unique in it's design, there are as many ways to put a spire on a tower as there are towers with spires, but they all follow the laws of physics.

I dunno, I think it tapers too much. It's going to look like a beheaded obelisk from half the angles.

AS long as we're talking about the top, it's clear there is going to be a lot crammed into that space, much "hidden" behind the parapet as well as the broadcast ring.

The window washing equipment will run along the base of the ring.

A look at that "skeleton"

It will be as interesting watching the spire put into place as watching the tower rise.

forms pulled from the n-east corner of base, time to move to another corner. More cladding going up on east-south-east side today!

Looks like the forms are going up on the SW corner.

Love those videos. Who doesn't love a cool physical model. I'd love to have one of lower Manhattan on display of the wall of my foyer. Anyone want to loan me $8,500 for a top of the line laser cutter? Makes me miss those days of architecture school. Model building was my favorite.

Broadcast ring height?

Does anyone know the official height to the top of the broadcast ring?

I'm curious because at some angles the 'roof' of the building looks as though its the top of the broadcast ring.

I read somewhere that the height is between 1401 - 1405 ft.

I'll do it, but I'll need collateral and a promissory note agreeing to my ridiculous interest rates.

NYC Skyline 2013-2014ish, or later if Larry has problems with 2 & 3.

As nice as that view is, let’s hope it won’t be permanent. 1 & 4 look like they can use come company.

That last rendering shows that this tower will be great, regardless of whether or not it's friends are tardy.

So people really still believe towers 2 and 3 won't get built?

I think it's pretty clear that they will be on there way up in at most the next 5 years.. no need to worry

The city wasn't made by anyone. It's GIS data with aerial photos mapped on. It's actually been a huge PITA to get it to run in my program.
