I'm sure someone's already given the answer somewhere on this thread, but dies anyone know what the small concrete platform in the water above the NE corner of the centre is supposed to be for (east of the new seaplane terminal)?

Unfortunately, it will be the ramp for a new marina.

I suppose you think rich Canadians and rich Americans will turn this site into a real eyesore with their grat big yachts...get a grip. It's gonna be a thing of beauty and probably an additional tourist attraction. Not to mention the amount of money they bring with them to spend in restaurants and shops downtown.

That's great. But the most intelligent and natural place for this thing of beauty is the unoccupied space immediately to the west of the VCC (where the current seaplane terminal will be vacating from). We would get the best of both worlds: a fancy new marina in the heart of the harbour while respecting the integrity of a serious piece of architecture and preserving the beauty of the views to and from its grand windows.

It's about Canada Customs mate. The floatplane terminal will most likely have CC and that's most logical place to dock these superyachts. I mean we are talking about some big vessels.

Usually for special events (holidays) and upon request by Convention Centre tenants. And by request I mean money.

It's kind of ironic that this is probably the first snow the Winter Olympic cauldron has seen

It feels like the picture was taken inside B.C. place stadium when all the fake snow was coming down before the cauldron was lit. Anyway, the cauldron has been re-lit six times. This is the second time the cauldron has seen snow.

One construction worker died and another was badly injured following two separate construction accidents in downtown Vancouver. One of the accidents occurred at Canada Place.

VANCOUVER — One worker was killed and another suffered life-threatening injuries minutes apart Thursday in separate accidents on work sites for the same company in downtown Vancouver.

A worker at a Ledcor construction site died around 8:30 a.m., after being struck by a concrete-pouring form, said Donna Freeman, a spokeswoman for the WorkSafeBC agency.

A few minutes later, a few blocks away, a worker erecting new sails on the iconic roof of Canada Place fell about 15 metres to the ground.

The worker suffered life-threatening injuries, said WorkSafeBC and the construction company, contradicting earlier reports that the worker had died.

The site's convention centre has been undergoing extensive renovation and cleaning of the five Teflon sails, and the company had erected tall scaffolding with stairways to get access to the roofs.

The names of the men had not been released.
