Hilarious. Don't be afraid of the street. Embrace it, connect to it...the street is your friend....NOT your enemy. So, what are you afraid of...?

I rode the London Eye around 10 years ago, and I'd love to see one here. I wonder where they'll end up building this?

Is it an affirmative that the Atlanta Eye is being built in the future?

they could find a site, buy the land, get zoning and it still could fall through
and never be built. so right now its just a proposed project with no money, land, or zoning permits just like the pirate museum

I pray to God they do not build a giant ferris wheel in the middle of Downtown. For once in this city's history can we come up with something original. Enough with these gimmicks from other cities! I just can't figure out why Atlanta strives to live in the shadows of other cities. The Midtown Mile, The Streets of Buckhead, the Streeetcar, and now this giant ferris wheel are all idea that originated from other cities. These ideas have been copied several times across the world from their original source. It's the fact that Atlanta developers market them as being "The Rodeo Drive of the South", "The Magnificent Mile of the South", but they're not. Just build the thing and stop with all the comparisons. It's this type of marketing jargon that makes us look like we're trying too hard to be something we're not. When projects are homegrown they tend to do better, think Atlantic Station and Underground...

Wow, this is the first time I've heard a Atlantan say this. Though I am a "outsider" I am a big fan of Atlanta and over the years it truly has come across as trying too hard. With what seem to be indirect and sometimes direct copies of things from other cities, it seems ingenuine.

I say let the Atlanta "EYE" go by the wayside. It's just TOO obvious.

idk, seems like roads, skyscrapers, aquariums, perimeter highways and gentrification all started in other cities. Do you think some hicks down from TN with their family will come to Atl and say, "Shucks Paw, that's the spittin image of the Eye! What a gimmick!," when they see our ferris wheel? I doubt it. A lot of cities have ferris wheels. London's eye was a "gimmick" because it just copied some other wheel and that turned out pretty good.

Do I think the wheel is a good idea. Not particularly, but I cant really say it's a bad idea either.

Atlanta is "trying too hard?" WTF does that mean, exactly? Does that mean London was trying too hard when they built Big Ben? How original...a GIANT CLOCK!

As it stands, Atlanta has very little to bring families downtown. Prior to the aquarium, it had nothing. I think the wheel would be a great idea. As it stands, there is no real observation deck to view the whole city.

+1. Nothing stays new very long anymore, and it doesn't matter to me who had some attraction first. I'd take an exact copy of New Cowboys Stadium in downtown Atlanta faster than you can say "gimmick"

When I went there after the reopening this spring, the observation level was free, and anyone can access it, even children. Even before the remodeling, it was hardly expensive, and I don't see a price listed on their website now.

Possibly the worst marketed observation deck in the world. I've been to the Sundial. The restaurant is overpriced and gimmicky. But for $5, I'd visit the observation deck a helluva lot. Was it crowded? Was it really open on Thanksgiving?

I'm surprised they didn't start advertising it much more after the renovation. Maybe the talk about the Atlanta Eye will wake the Westin up about this.

I believe so, they tried going back in time, to build it in the past so that it would already be here - but there were some logistics problems.

Eye

From my POV, irrespective of how novel it is or how much it differentiates Atlanta, I'd like to see it built as it would be something to do. Personally I would imagine riding it with some regularity, like a stroll in the park or what have you, just to enjoy the view. Not sure how much the same could be said for other residents, but it'd be another reason for me to head down a few stops to the downtown area. Does that justify the costs, etc.? No idea...just a self serving perspective.
