Wow is right - that rendering perspective is way off!

Oh my, that is a truly epic view of Richmond & the airport. I might even be going there today to pick up another set of computer items at NCIX. The buildings do seem out-of-perspective though, as if they could be a lot taller.

Am I the only one who thinks Richmond is a cool place because of the height limit? I think when it's 'complete' and covered with dense medium height buildings it will have a very different urban vibe than Downtown or Metrotown, and variety like that is good when we have several up and coming suburbs.

I agree. It doesn't make for a pretty skyline, but at street level it puts Burnaby's town centres to shame. I'd love to see that continue.

I'm curious about that render...it looks like Ackroyd isn't getting extended to meet up with Elmbridge. Is that correct? Seems like a perfect opportunity to break up a huge block, it would suck to see that go to waste.

I dunno. I think Richmond's headed in the right direction, but I wish the buildings would be just a bit taller, so there's not that table top effect on the skyline. What's the maximum for building height in Richmond now, anyways?

the plan is to have it extended, yes. i remember checking out the acqua showroom a few years ago and in the models, ackroyd was extended. acqua even has townhomes built along this future extension.

Well you won't ever be seeing taller buildings in Richmond so long as YVR continues to function. I don't know what's the height limit but I understand it's around 18 floors. Even though no airplanes ever fly that low, everything is over-engineered with a (unreasonably) high safety factor when it comes to aviation safety. That means the unlikely chances of airplane/building crashes are magnified and building heights are lowered until deemed practically impossible for an airplane/building crash, which in this case is around 18 floors. You know how strict and strigent security is in airports; expect the same for flight paths.

I think by edmonds station next to rumble and Griffiths, that a tower might go up.....

The property is decent sized and the only thing that was there was a lone house. But im not sure if the land (being next to the stream and forest) can handle a tower 20-30 stories high, so it might just be townhouses.

Many cities in Europe have amazing density without height. Most cities I have visited in Europe seem to be against the condo highrise and don't think that it is practical. Obviously Canadians think differently.

I disagree. Richmond's downtown is still mostly made up of strip malls and parking lots, it has a long way to go but is definitely moving in the right direction.

If there's any city in Metro Vancouver that should adopt a 8 storey Berlin-style mid-rise built form, it would be Richmond. Better than the stumpy-high-rise-on-parkade model they've got going so far...

Well, there's nowhere else to put parking..what would you do with it? At least they're generally tucking it behind street level townhouses now.
