Is that true?

Not really. The spire itself isn't actually built yet. If it's to be 1,776 ft, it will be 1,776 ft. That's the one thing they are determined to keep final about this tower.

Anyway, the difference in north and south entrances is shown here, where the stairway will make up for it on the northern entrance. If you look closely, you can see the Vesey Street entrance has it, while the Fulton Street entrance does not.

Great pics !

The Tower is 1,776 feet high as measured from 3 of the four entrances and that is good enough for me and the PA. (I think the PA's opinion might carry more weight.)

I have to smile when I read all the "This Tower should be 2,000' high" comments, because with the PA's elevation system, IT IS !!!!!!!!!

The owner or designer of a building should not be the arbiter of accurate height counts... That is just foolish thinking. They are too subjective for obvious reasons. (Just ask all the women who trusted men on the size of an object because it was theirs.)

With that logic, then this must also stand to reason...

I am going on record as saying my house is 2900 feet tall and the new world's tallest. I own it and built most of it myself and am the most trustworthy source for its height.

Obviously an outside, disinterested party with a heavy-duty, laser altimeter is the only person to trust.

Come to think of it, even if the spire is 1781', it could still be symbolic for the year that Washington and Lafayette kicked some ass at Yorktown.

I can't see your house from here so something is wrong.

Neither the owner or the designer are the last say in official hight calculations for any building.

Obviously an outside, disinterested party with a heavy-duty, laser altimeter is the only person to actually do the final determination.

And when all is said and done Tower One well be 1,776 feet tall.

YAWN!!!!!!!!!!

It seems like it would be a nice tribute to the original wtc 2 tower.
It might be because of the "wedge of light" that will happen every September 11th. It it's a sunny day, the sunlight will go through the clear tip at the top of the tower and do something below (I can't quite remember). I imagine for this to occur, the building needs to be the exact height that it's slated for.

Wait, really? That sounds awesome! Anyone know exactly what's supposed to happen?

^Yeah, that's not actually real. The "Wedge of Light" plaza was a dumb idea that ignored the Millennium Hotel standing right across the street. 2WTC really doesn't have anything to do with that, as that idea was dropped a long time ago when everyone realized it couldn't happen. It's also horrible thing to add in to a building. The Memorial is a tribute to the building and people that were there before. The wedge of light immortalizes the actual attack, which is tasteless or macabre depending on your leanings.

Well, I think a ray of light shines directly from the tip of the Freedom Tower's spire each September 11th down to a spot in Battery Park, pinpointing the entrance to a subterranean chamber where the Freemasons buried a fabulous ancient Egyptian treasure back when Washington was still an active member.

No, wait... wrong movie...

Haha I could see National Treasures 3 have a scene where they use the Freedom Tower's light to shine to a underground temple in the NJ land fills.

I hate to harp on this, but look at they height of One WTC now and compare it to 7 WTC (The last three pictures). How can 1 WTC be almost 50 floors tall when 7 WTC is 52? 1 WTC looks a respectable amount shorter. I know the pedestal area is not per say 20 actual floors but isnt the height of the pedestal area based on what 20 actual floors would be like? There cant be that much difference in office floor height in 1 WTC and 7 WTC. Anyone explain this?

^^^The office floors in both 7 WTC and 1 WTC are very tall, something like 14 feet between floors. In most buildings this height is much shorter, and in say someone's house that number can be as low as 8 ft. So the "20 floors" the base is supposed to represent doesn't necessarily represent 20 full-sized 14' office floors, but shorter floors around 9-10 feet tall.

(Tower 111 is 48 floors and only 554' tall)
