I'm right there with you! I think Salt Lake City and County will really bennefit and stand out as a convention destination when we finally get a large 1000+ room hotel directly adjacent to the Salt Palace Convention Center, possibly with a direct connection. Striking a deal with Hyatt Regency would be fantastic! Any hotel of that caliber will do.

I know from past experience and from the three major annual conventions I'm involved in every year at the Salt Palace, we really NEED a 500 - 1000 room convention-centered hotel! One of the companies that I convention with used to have their conventions in various cities around the country; the most successful being those that had large convention hotels connected to or adjacent to the convention centers (my favorite being Minneapolis... least favorite Kansas City). The Salt Palace is already the right size.. we just need more convenient convention hotel space!

I am not convinced. Why can't we just offer some tax incentives and relocated one of our local gems. Goodbye 1000 room hotel, hello Capitol Motel.

Carhartt, coming to the Metro - To open brand-name store in Murray

Carhartt is moving into Murray, choosing the community initially known for its smelters as the site of the
outerwear company’s second brand-centered retail store.

“Coming to Utah was really an easy decision,” said Tony Ambroza, vice president of marketing for the Dearborn,
Mich.-based company started in 1889 by Hamilton Carhartt to provide railroad workers with overalls tough enough
to withstand the rigors of their gritty jobs.

“Our brand and our products are known for their rugged, durable construction suitable for active people. That
translates perfectly for the lifestyles you lead out in Utah.”...

They just keep on coming. We are getting to the point that every other day we hear news on a new company coming to Utah. This is great.
Utah truly is the new hot spot for businesses to move or expand here.

The thing that pisses me off about this so called "advisory committee" and there suburban colored glasses is that they want this vibrant town center with unique and successful retail options yet they don't understand how exactly that is going to be accomplished. The apartments need to be there because those living in the apartments will actually be the ones that regularly spend time in those shops and restaurants. If the apartments aren't included, in the number that Cowboy partners proposed, (less 10 - 25%, all good developers propose more housing units than needed to make the project pencil out, that way it allows them to show "flexibility" with the city in reducing the number of units. However that reduces number may have already been proposed.)

A "Town Center" cannot be just that without residential. Otherwise it is just yet another strip mall that everyone has to drive to. Increasing the need for more parking on site reducing the available square footage for retail.

I would like to know who exactly sits on this "advisory committee" I would venture to guess that it is simply a couple of NIMBY's that don't want "those horrible apartment dwellers" in their city.

"Crate and Barrel" store coming to Murray at Fashion Place Mall.

Just heard on fox 13 news that "Crate and Barrel" has started building their store at the old Nordstroms building that was torn down a few months back.

The new building will be two stories and will be part of Phase two of the overall Fashion Place redevelopment. The store will open around spring or summer of 2011.

Fox news unveiled a rendering of the new building, Just waiting for them to post that rendering on their website so I can post it on here. If anybody finds it first go ahead and post it. The rendering looks really cool for what I've seen and I think you guys will like it.

Ok I first said spring or summer of next year. However I was a bit off. They plan to open a year from now in Nov. 2011. That would make more sense. The new store will be 29,000 Square feet.

Work is begining to pickup at the U of U Medical center at Daybreak.

It is approximately 208,000 sq. ft. with a 24/7 emergency room. It will house an estimated 300 employees.

Canyons plans big dining changes

Canyons Resort

Canyons Resort has changes planned to its food and beverage offerings no less ambitious than its on-mountain improvements. The resort recently released additional information about its plans.
Vice President of Marketing Todd Burnette had previously announced the resort's largest new restaurant would be The Farm, a 4,000-square-foot eatery with 200 seats indoors and potentially another 200 outdoors.

According to a press release, The Farm will be located on the corner of the Grand Summit Hotel across from the Red Pine Gondola. It will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Spokesperson Hannah Hanley said the resort is hoping for an opening day in February.

As the name implies, it will be a "farm to fork" concept, she said. Ingredients will be sought within a 100-mile radius with about 25 planned local vendors and artisans, according to a press release...

I like it too. It's always nice to see new retails coming to the area. I've never been to a "Crate and Barrel" but I have heard alot of good things about the store and I plan on checking it out once the store opens next fall.

I'm excited for C&B. I love C&B and the bldg design. I've been waiting for years for them to finally come here. I used to shop there every Sunday on my way to church when I lived in NYC. hehe

Winners will be announced Dec. 17 and the two top vote-getters will be selected to air nationally during the month of January, von de Esch explained

This season will also mark the inaugural year for Eagle Point, the state's 14th ski resort, scheduled to open on Dec. 15. The resort is located 18 miles east of Beaver about 200 miles south of Salt Lake City.

The state ski industry was also bolstered by recent news that eight of the state's 14 winter resorts were ranked among the top 30 in North America, according to a Ski Magazine reader survey.

For the fourth consecutive year, Deer Valley Resort topped the list, while Park City ranked fifth, The Canyons was No. 18, followed by Snowbird at No. 19, with Snowbasin at No. 27, Alta at No. 28 and Solitude ranked 30th.
