mmmmmm..........that pizza place in kensington......pulcinella.
I like a good variety of pizza choices. Some days I get the standard pizza 73 double pepperoni or some days earls thin crust, pulcinella, or something from wicked wedge.
On my weak days, I have even been known to fry up bacon, cut it into little peices, and load it onto a double pepperoni......lol

I'm a big fan of Roma's Pizzeria in Bridgeland. If you live in the area and haven't tried it, it's the best "cheap" pizza I've had in Calgary. I always get a pepperoni, bacon and mushroom, as well as a capicola, pineapple and feta: appeases both the wife and me.

Seeing as I don't go to Chinook, haven't had Wedge since they closed on 17th - is similar to what is used to be??
Surprisingly similar....... I was happy to eat it for sure. The prices really aren't that bad either. Was the rent too much on 17th ave?
Side note......There is a pizza place in the food court near the scotia tower that charges 3.75 per slice for little tiny peices or garbage pizza. Such a rip off

Some friends and I looked into buying the Wedge a few years ago. The rent wasn't that bad and they had more than a few years left on their lease. We balked at the price though. Wasn't worth it based on what they pulled in. Would have been long hours for crappy pay.
Whomever did buy it, paid a lot of money just for the name.
According to Chinook's leasing plan, Tiffany & Co. is moving into the space between Apple and Harry Rosen.
That's very interesting! That is a well located, good sized space (4,100 square feet). There was an article in the Herald about a month ago that stated the Tiffany boutique inside Holt Renfrew was leading the chain and that jewellery sales were up 44%. I'm guessing they will have the main store at Chinook and keep the boutique inside Holts (as it's practically brand new), much like Vancouver.
An impressive tenant for Chinook to land, that is for sure!
What Chinook really needs is another two or three sit down restaurants, attached to the mall from the inside. I know there are a few, on the outside, and while people here might say "What, you can't walk outside a few feet?" having indoor sit-down restaurants (like Moxies, despite whether you liked Moxies itself or not) are handy, and they were always busy, as is East Side Marios on the outside also busy frequently.
And the latest addition without any expansion of the food court has created a mad house the few times I've been to the mall in the last few weeks that can only get worse as we get into the crunch of Christmas season. Sit down restaurants provide a nice alternative to fast-food fare also I feel bring in the evening shopper on week nights that may come for a movie, have a nice meal first, and do a little window shopping before heading to the movie. I know I've done that with the wife more than a few times before they ripped out Moxies.

There is a Flatiron Grill going in. It looks like it is going to be two levels with an upstairs patio. It is located by the escalators to the parkade

On another note with regard to the Chinook expansion. I finally had the opportunity to to check it out and walk around a bit. They have done a really great job, it's nice an bright that is for sure. I always remember the Chinook Centre of my childhood, what a dark mess that was. The strange way that one level just ended and you had to take an escalator to the next. Malls sure have come a long way.
Additionally, I am a HUGE fan of the new parking system they have installed at Chinook at their various enclosed parking areas. For those who haven't seen it there are little cameras above each stall. When a car is in the stall the light above it is red, when the stall is empty the light is green. It certainly makes the process much easier.

I went up to Crossiron Mills at 11AM this morning, and it was a ZOO! I can't even imagine it during the evenings or weekend. It was the first time I have gone up there. We went Christmas tree shopping at Lowes (you know, the traditional way ) and it was also amazingly busy. It's a nice store, though, good selection of Christmas stuff... but they were almost sold out of everything. Just how early do people shop for Christmas nowadays??
