what does the city plan to do with this (kinda) abandoned neighborhood? At least i hope they keep some original buildings for refurbishment.

areas like that, adjacent to dt, are getting fewer and farther between. Reminds me a little bit of Ste. Cath near the forum a few years back, or the area around the old Dow Brewery.

As much as I would like to see a rennaissance, I have a thing for Montreal Grit.

Well I think you gotta let the city a chance, Quartier des spectales is suspose to be ready in 2014, many things are gonna happen by then, but it's true at the moment it is messy !

^Mr. John is right. The quartier des spectacles, if it is ever finished, will never live up to what its champions say.
First, it has and will have for decades a wide selection of vast empty lots.

Second, It lacks any sense of REAL vision. where are the internationaly renowned buildings? Museums of reputation? (aside from MAC)

Third, it will always be in the grips of nimbys who oppose any ambitious light schemes, or the smallest apparition of height and density, or demolution.

And Finally, it is entirely dependant on public funds from governments based in other cities which don't give a 🞵🞵🞵🞵. The private investors we do have are as crooked as the Berri-Uqam dope sellers. Honestly, the QDS is nice, but Mr. John is right, it needs hundreds of millions more from reliable private contractors. NOT from the government, and certainly NOT from incompetent mafiosos.

Quite honestly, I look at the Bell lightbox in Toronto, and then I look at the 2-22 and I put my head down in shame. sometimes.

Suis-je le seul à croire que nous devrions augmenter la hauteur du Mont Royal pour augmenter la hauteur maximale des gratte-ciels sans déplaire aux NIMBY? Regardez The Berg à Berlin... On n'aurait qu'à ajouter ça sur un des trois sommets du mont et le problème serait réglé! D'accord, j'avoue que c'est plus un rêve qu'un projet réalisable, à moins que Régis Labeaume ne devienne maire de Montréal ou que l'on découvre que Jean Drapeau est encore en vie!

2000 logements bientôt en construction, on est en train de raser les vieux édifices et préparer le terrain

Une douzaine d'immeubles devraient être construits. Trois d'entre eux auront 20 étages, avec des vues superbes sur les environs. Les autres édifices compteront sept ou huit étages. Tous viseront la certification LEED. Pour relever le défi, le Groupe Cardinal Hardy a travaillé en collaboration avec les bureaux Menkès Shooner Dagenais Letourneux Architectes, également de Montréal, et Busby Perkins " Will, de Vancouver.

bon point, en autant que ce n'est pas dans la meme vogue que le Louis Boheme. Beau rendu, mauvaise construction. En faite la facade est du LB est tres bonne.

I am still quite skeptical that this will mark the beginning of construction. Perhaps all they will be doing is putting up a sales office or something? There is no mention of this project anywhere on the net.

Yes but why is the parking lot all but closed only a small section is in use?

No mention of it on the Internet? We're not visiting the same web site, obviously. This project will be under construction next week. At least 40 stories. Yeah!

I mean from official sources (I'm aware its on mtlurb). It is not on Marriott's website, or Canvar's or any of the architects, etc.

Although if you know of somewhere it is mentioned, I would love to take a look.

I don't know about anyone else, but personally I love the mystery surrounding this project, will it be a stunning 40-45 storey glass tower or will it turn out to be a typical Montreal 28 storey concrete shitbox or will the project get cancelled at the last minute or will batman and robin save the day ....stay tuned we should have all the answers this week

Des nouveaux projets au centre-ville
Plus que jamais, le centre-ville continue de se développer et d'attirer de nouveaux résidants. Trois importants projets ont donc été adoptés par les membres du conseil afin de renforcer l'offre en logements. En voici les grandes lignes :

* le projet Altitude : constitué d'une tour de 33 étages (123 mètres) devant abriter approximativement 154 unités résidentielles de type condominium, au coin des rues Cathcart et University, face à la Place Ville-Marie. On y retrouvera aussi un restaurant, un spa ainsi qu'un stationnement souterrain. La construction sera entamée d'ici Noël. Rappelons que ce terrain était vacant depuis de nombreuses années.
* d'ici les prochains mois, un complexe commercial et résidentiel verra le jour du côté sud du boulevard René-Lévesque, entre les rues De Bleury et Anderson. Considéré comme le plus important terrain vacant du secteur des affaires, l'immeuble qui y sera construit sera d'une hauteur de 40 étages avec un basilaire de 11 étages, destinés à des fins hôtelières. De plus, dans la partie sud, on y construira des maisons en rangée de trois étages. Le coût total du projet est estimé à 35 M$.
