Actually that's a really good idea. I would hate to have it turn into a retail store or something boring like that. It's really too bad we are going to lose the IMAX though, I don't understand how that could have happened. I hope they build another one or more in Vancouver or Burnaby, as it's not the same as the OMNIMAX, and aren't the only other ones in Colossus Langley and Riverport?

Dunno if this has been posted, but the northeast corner CRU is going to be an irish-style pub = "Mahoney's Pub" if I read the poster right. This is the corner unit by the giant raindrop.

Those mountains truly are beautiful. And I can sorta understand why someone would be totally pissed if those views were blocked... Sort of. But why are the sulphur mills/industrial park(?) still on the edge of the bay? I mean the mountains are beautiful too look at from downtown but those mills sure aren't. I know it would cost millions just to move them but you think something would have been said or done something about them by now seeing as how everyone complains about something in Vancouver. That area could be million dollar bayside condos

Because Vancouver is and always has been a functioning port city with one of the largest ports in North America, postioned for pan-pacific trade. From Wiki:

The Port of Vancouver is Canada's largest and most diversified port, trading more than $43 billion in goods with more than 90 trading economies annually. Port activities generate 69,200 jobs in total with $4 billion in gross domestic product and $8.9 billion in economic output.


Yep, let's get rid of the port, build more condos and screw the economy.

I heard that when NBC came to town to scout locations for their Olympic broadcast sites, they were delighted to get their choice of space in the new Convention Centre for their main broadcast desk with the harbour and mountains in the background.
They actually asked to have the sulphur piles moved 'out of camera range'.

there actually is a proposal by Concert to develop part of the waterfront on the north shore around where the Auto Mall is. Theres something about it in the North Shore Updates thread.

I think its a bad idea.

I like the idea of having a pub there but I don't quite see an Irish pub fitting very well in that spot. The architecture of the building feels too sleek, modern and glassy to work with the usual motifs of a traditional Irish pub, in my mind.

not to mention subway and starbuck!

It will be your typical garden variey Disneyesq Irish Pub with about as much soul as a worn out pair of shoes. Frequented largely by tourists.

...and to add insult to injury, no doubt there'll be 60" giant TV screens and blaring sound system, broadcasting every single hockey game 24/7.

No Irish person within 100 miles would dare be seen in those sort of places. They're the exact opposite of what an Irish Pub represents.

i believe the Irish pub is going to be a Mahony & Sons (they have a location at UBC). and yes, it's run by Irish people and there will be lots of tv's and live bands.
