The bomb search certainly is a good idea. I saw a documentary on TV about unexploded ordinances going off in Europe from time to time from the 2nd World War (and maybe even the 1st World War since bombs were sometimes planted in tunnels back then).

I visited Vimy Ridge in August, and they still use sheep to cut the lawns because they don't dare drive heavy machinery around the grounds for fear of all the unexploded ordinance. It was amazing to see the craters left behind, especially the huge ones that were actually created by underground explosions that they did specifically to make craters in no-mans-land so that it was harder to cross and easier to defend.

Perhaps this isn't surprising, but in Poland there are several dozen unexploded ordinance removal teams that operate around the country. Apparently they still deal with well over 1000+ calls each year from people who find WWII munitions. I took a tour in Warsaw a few years ago and even saw a bomb removal team working on some construction site.

Obviously this type of thing is much more of a concern in Europe than here but it's still worth going through the process as the developer did. The stuff remains potentially active for decades and decades

I'll bet there is still unexploded and potential dangerous ordinance from the SS Mont-Blanc sitting at the bottom of the harbour.

Wow, that looks like a building out of the 70's or 80's, this is a big step back in my opinion, not impressed. It really limits the potential on that lot for the future.

I'm not sure about this one. The tower itself basic. My problem I guess is the materials and colors chosen. This will be viewable from the water and I think something a lot brighter would be more suited for the area. It reminded me of a newer Fenwick Tower on a shorter scale of course. Maybe that's not the final design.

I wouldn't blame it all on Halifax bullshit. The lot is not really the place for residential in the first place. I think a nice looking high rise office complex would be nice for the area it would add a nice compliment to Burnside and I could see it being in high demand.

I suspect they might have bit off more than they could chew. Considering existing financial constraints and the location (which still has a lot of industrial around it); I'm not surprised.

If a few other projects had been done and the area were more residential than industrial - I'm sure the project would've sold better.

I agree. There are few amenities nearby for residents. I guess the closest stuff is in Bedford and Magazine Hill traffic is awful.

I don't like the new design, but I think something this scale could work well there, esp. if they include a grocery store. Its basically in burnside, there are actually quite a few relevant stores, fast food joints, etc in burnside now.

I very HIGHLY doubt you are going to see a grocery store in an industrial park.

The original project was impressive and would be a great addition to the city, just was long known it wasn't ideal for that area (industrial Park). As one said, something like this on the bedford waterfront would be awesome.

Not in the park, literally within the development. Even so, its a business/industrial park and DC is basically "in the park".

There is a Rogers Store, tons of food spots, and even a bar in Burnside and if there were alot of people living there (which this development will provide) it might make sense for this development to include a small scale grocery store or a new cash and carry style in the park. Plus people going home after work could pick something up.

I would love to see a grocery store in around that location. It wouldn't be that busy on weekends or late evenings at first, but give it time. I think a lot of people would use it after work to pick up their supper items and avoid the of having to stop of the busier stores in their neighborhoods.
That water side property is too valuable to waste on industrial. Towers lining the waterway are what I hope becomes of burnside when it grows up.

It seems as though something is going to happen. There are a few excavators and rollers onsite today doing some work. Might just be some trail work but at least the site isn't totally dead.
