When McIver was the front runner (ie: most of the campaign), I don't recall any McIver supporters saying "eh, it doesn't really matter if he wins, the mayor only has limited power anyway".
There's been plenty of discussion here in a civilized tone about other candidates who did not support Nenshi (Radley was one example off the top of my head), and they did not get "attacked" as you put it. So your paranoid "omg no one can say anything bad about Nenshi" is demonstrably FALSE.

You hit it on the head Freeweed. I was trying to make the point that the mayor is in fact an important part of council, and TDOW would probably say so if McIver won.
Is the mayor the only player on council? Of course not, but they do have an important leadership role and they are the only person who can legitimately say that a plurality of all calgarians voted for them.
And I do appreciate constructive dialogue. I have disagreed on many occasions with people such as Policy Wonk, Sir Humphrey, Ramsayfarian, Radyley and many more. But the discussion is always constructive and argument based. I just don't see the point of trolling (others do obviously). I am here to discuss issues, and perhaps get a better understanding of people's perspectives. In fact, I think my opinion of McIver has changed a bit over the election period. Although I don't think he would make a good mayor, he was a voice for fiscal conservatism (although I think he got carried away sometimes), which I see as a good balance to people like Druh Farrell, who I do see as a bit frivolous at times.
