2 interesting observations over the past few days:

1. Joe Connelly has spent quite a lot of money on nothing. He's bought a bunch of advertising at the Saddledome during Flames games. That sure as hell don't come cheap!

2. The guy in Ward 2 (mobster-sounding name, I just can't ever spell it right even though he has 1800 signs on my street) just left a message on my answering machine, stating that if I do not vote for him, NO CALGARY STREET WILL GET PLOWED THIS YEAR. Cue ominous music and lightning crash. Hey, dipshit - fear tactics are the lowest form of campaining, and get your damn facts straight. While there certainly is room for debate as to the levels of snow clearing in this city, I have yet to see a November-December period go by that didn't see ANY snow clearing. I'm pretty confident that if we got 2 feet of snow tonight, at least some streets would get plowed. Oh, and he'll gladly drive me to the polling station. This has always bothered me that we allow this - yup, we should favour candidates with more money, that's democratic. Not that I'm sure how to stop it without trampling on a bunch of other freedoms, mind you.

I swear, it's like they're TRYING to make me vote against them.

Part of thing that really bugged me is that they quoted these videos as reason not to trust him: he'll close some libraries and reduce staffing; he says he'll sell Enmax if he gets the right price, etc.

I'll forward those Nenshi links along to them.

It just bugs me that they are grasping at straws to slander his name. I comfort myself thinking that they are racists who know better than to send out flyers saying he'll force everyone to become muslim.

Probably a crazy neighbour who is handy with a computer. Didn't look professional but still looked like it was well organized. Quoted Nenshi off of those videos and had some quotes from some city people. It's a double sided photocopy on some fairly stiff fluorescent green paper.

At first I was thinking some purple retort flyers would be useful, but after thinking about it more green flyers calling themselves "part 2" talking about how Naheed wants us all to become muslim, and is being controlled by space beings would probably be more effective.

Nenshi was in the hood Saturday night. I think he blew everyone away. I also have some video, but it's pretty shakey as I didn't have a tripod. I'll post the vid as soon as it's uploaded to Youtube.

He did a great job of answering everyone's questions and he was still talking to individuals when I left.

Thought I'd post a picture I found on Nenshi's Flickr account of him holding the front page of the Sun endorsing him.

I was there! We were waving in Marda Loop and NN leads us all into Macs. We're like, "does he need a frosty or something?" and he pulls a paper off the Sun stack. It was quite hilarious.

His signage is horrible. It's soo hard to read when you drive by. I think that he is savvy to this so he has changed his signs to s simple vote Joe Connelly. Problem is that they are in a different colour than his previous signs. Strange.

Too bad. He was my Ward's alderman last term and I thought he was a solid guy. He shouldn't have jumped straight into the Mayoral race so soon. He could have won Ward 6 with his eyes closed this year. A few more terms, and his name would have been large enough (coupled with experience) to have made a legit run for Mayor.

Seems to be a trend of Joe Connelly poorly spending campaign money...

Berber Carpets for Joe Connelly!

Craig Burrows signage was also atrocious. Way too much white space, with lettering way too small.

Not that I cared too much, but do these people not give thought to "Is this readable and catch your eye from a distance?"

I'm glad the Sun endorsed Nenshi! Maybe there's hope yet for that newspaper. Nenshi definetely is the best candidate, period!

Joe's ego drove everything he did. I feel sorry for his contributors, especially the ones who gave after nomination day.

I think that Wayne had the best signage from a design perspective, but Nenshi's purple was the best brand.

Nenshi may win this thing yet, he's picking up alot of steam. I've read through all of Nenshi's literature and I like where he's coming from. It's great to have someone running that is clear on what they intend to do.

Aside from all the smart ideas that has has published, Nenshi as mayor would go a long way to helping get rid of the 'redneck' image. Any time I hear some idiot remark about Calgary being a 'redneck' city, I could say, 'hey, take a look at our mayor and kindly shut the f_ck up!'
