I don't really know. It's probably one of those things that it's better not to know exactly. I'd guess on average maybe $500/ea.

Most expensive? Probably the WTC due to a high piece count and back in 2001 when I built it, online parts were not as cheap and plentiful as they are today.

Some aren't that expensive. The Sony Building, CN Tower, and maybe the Eiffel Tower are easily under $100.

Hey Spencer, I have an intelligent question;

I've always wondered... what was your first skyscraper? Or did you not really have a first. Meaning did you just start making a bunch at once so you could kind of get a feel for where you wanted the universal scale to be?

And did you ever end up making a building that had to be redesigned after you made your next skyscraper because you might have had to increase the scale to suit the most previous skyscraper?

The trans-black tiles are currently averaging around $0.20ea in 1x1 and $0.10ea in 1x2 form on Bricklink. That's around $150 in glass, plus the parts underneath. Cheaper if you can score better-than-average deals on those parts.

The WTC towers came first and I never had any plans to build other buildings when I initially built it. The others began after I finished it. The scale I chose for the WTC was simply based on economics - the supply of tile grille pieces, their overall costs, and a number that allowed the footprint of the building to be built in whole stud increments.

That scale just happened to work out to about 2 plates equaling the average floor to floor height of commercial highrise office space. It was a fortunate coincidence. Obviously useful for buildings with strong horizontal lines.

Interesting custom model of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin designed by Max Niebling with LEGO Digital Designer software and ordered directly from LEGO. Nicely done.

So Spencer, what can we expect from you in the future? Is your greatest skyscraper yet to come?! I think you should definately knock out the current top 10 tallest before you decide to call it quits!
I've always wondered how you would make the Petronas Towers and the World Financial Center!

Would you make the WFC in a pre-9/11 state so you could connect your WTC to it kinda like your Rockefeller Center buildings? That would be REALLY cool! Plus the bridge behind WTC 6 would have something to connect to! Lol!

And the Petronas Towers could be easy to model using 1x1 round and square plates. Sort of like Brickshelf user Torgugick's design (I think you had a table next to him at Brickworld 2009). Although his seems like it may be a bit too small for your scale and you always do original designs anyways. So you would probably find a differrent way to replicate the buildings.

Just some ideas to think about....

So when's the actual LEGO Architecture Rockefeller Center gonna come out?

I was at the Woodfield store the other day looking at their pick-a-brick wall for pieces for mine and one of the employees saw the title at the top of my parts list and says, "Oh why don't you just wait for the actual set?" Then he says, "Or maybe it is a better idea to make your own b/c they're late on releasing it."

So now we know for sure that it's the Rock. But the question now is how long do we have to wait? I hope it's not long b/c it'll probably be really cool!

Only thing I have heard is a Fall release. It's named on an online "unofficial" 2010 list of sets as Rockefeller Plaza. I don't know what portions of the complex will be included, but I'd think 30 Rock is a given.

I always add a LEGO logo brick into a storefront window in my models to serve as a hypothetical LEGO retail store. Rockefeller Center is the only landmark I've build that actually houses a real-life LEGO store.
