Traffic and logic don't make sense anywheres really ...

When I was in high school my bus used to start the evening rush hour along Dartmouth Road. The traffic would flow normally but when it would stop on the few days that the opposing traffic would stop (not a lot of days really) the line up would exist until 8 or 9pm (5 hours later!). Kind of shows how a residential street shouldn't be used as a traffic funnel for the entire region.

Somewhere I've seen plans for the restructuring of this exit and the Glendale exit. Whenever, if ever, they do it everything will be connected, including the Bedford bypass. It was a pretty crazy design, looked like a bowl of spaghetti. The 107 extension could be the catalyst to get it going. I'll see if I can dig up the document.

No surprise here but the latest rumour going around town is this has been delayed again.

Also according to a reliable source this is planned as a two-lane truck road not the four lane expressway most people think it is. The only upside is the province will deed some land over to HRM for an eventual AT trail that will run from Highfield Park to Sackville.

One part of me feels this would be okay, anything is better right?

See the link for the NS Government 5-year plan for road building. Looks like this road is slated to start construction in 2012-2013. That is well within the NDP's term, so maybe they are actually serious about it...

It is listed as a 100-series highway - I'm not sure if that indicates absolutely that it is intended to be divided, but it sounds promising to me.

13. Conclusions -
A. With provision of recommended intersection improvements, all study area
intersections with the exception of the Burnside Drive / Highway 111 eastbound
ramp intersection will provide satisfactory performance for through street
movements during 2016 with Highway 107, Phase 1.
B. While the Beaver Bank By-Pass may divert some trips from Glendale Drive over
the next 10 to 15 years, the existing two lane cross section of Glendale Drive will
be approaching capacity by 2026. Plans should be prepared for widening Glendale
Drive to a four lane street with appropriate auxiliary lanes.
C. Duke Street will provide a temporary connection to Highway 102 for Highway 107,
Phase 1 to accommodate projected 2016 volumes. However, the additional
capacity of future Highway 107 phases with direct connections to Highway 102 will
be required to provide satisfactory performance for projected 2026 volumes.
E. Construction of the future phase of Highway 107 from Burnside Drive extension
to meet existing Highway 107 east of Akerley Boulevard will divert traffic to
Highway 118 and Highway 107 east of Highway 118. This will reduce Burnside
Drive volumes which could improve levels of performance at all Burnside Drive
intersections, including the Highway 111 ramp intersections

^Yah and if you look at 2015-16 the realignment of Highway 102/101 interchange is being planned. This is part of Phase II/III of the Expressway.

The 101/102 realignment cannot happen soon enough. Its one of the busier interchanges in Metro Halifax and it is beyond dangerous. Getting on the ramps requires flooring the brakes (go from 100km/h+ to 25-30km/h) and the on-ramps have zero merge areas

Commit to Burnside corridor: Report

Municipal staff say Halifax regional council should commit the total active transportation capital budget for 2013-14 to one project connecting the Burnside Industrial Park to Bedford.

A staff report to be presented to council extols the merits of committing $1 million to enter into a partnership with the province to construct an active transportation corridor parallel to the Burnside Drive extension.

The province would provide the space for the corridor and cover the engineering and construction costs.

The 111/Victoria Rd. interchange has the same layout I think where exit and entrance lanes merge together on the highway so you are trying to get off in the same lane where someone else is trying to get on. Is there a plan anywhere that anyone has seen as to how the 101/102 interchange will be reconfigured.

The Victoria Rd-111 merge is probably my least favorite no matter what direction. When it was built it was probably safer but the volumes of traffic have increased a lot over the years. I welcome the 102/101 change as well because it's my second least favorite.

You should try walking through it. To say the least before Friday I didn't know the rail overpass was actually two bridges appearing as one.
