Here is an e-mail I recieved from Troy University today concerning the demolition of the old Executive Office Building on Montgomery Street:

I am following up on a request by Dr. Jack Hawkins to address your question regarding the "old executive office building" located in Montgomery. The current plan is to demolish the building. We are in the process of testing the building for hazardous materials and will then bid the demolition.

Good news for ASU !! Now it`s time for Bishop State in Mobile to follow ASU`s lead in expansion and become a four year HBCU instead of a two year. In so many ways I believe ASU is the premier school in Montgomery.

Are we talking about the building on the other side of Molton Street? If so, I hope they salvage some of that nice stonework. I imagine it will all go to the landfill, though. Montgomery is way behind the times with regard to architectural salvage.

it`s *not* time for Bishop State in Mobile to follow ASU`s lead in expansion and become a four year HBCU instead of a two year.

(plenty of 4-year state schools already in Alabama, including USA in Mobile... Bishop State is the only 2-year state school in Mobile)

In so many ways I believe ASU is *not* the premier school in Montgomery

(Auburn-Montgomery is clearly the best school in Montgomery; Huntingdon is clearly the most beautiful.)

My feeling is they bring it on themselves. I am not going to run down the laundry list of missteps and questionable things ASU has done through the years. I must say that they seem to have righted the boat recently and are doing a decent job of keeping their house in order. I am really enjoying the tremendous amount of great construction projects on campus and absolutely love the results of the Hall Street project which cuts through the campus.

Hopefully ASU is back on the right track!

ASU's problems were mainly political in nature. With the removal of Joe Reed from the school (including even his name from the Acadome), ASU is working to get people to focus on its academic offerings, both old and new, and updating its campus is one of the best ways to show it visually.

I don't think the point of Port_of_Bama entry was to say that ASU is the best school in Montgomery. The point was to say that he is proud of the improvements they are making.

ASU is the only school in Montgomery with the potential (I said the potential) to be on the level with UAB and Troy (in Troy, AL). And if they were to reach that potential they would be the number 1 school in the river region. That would take improvements academically, racially, visually on campus, and going division 1A in sports.

ASU could easily become the best college in the region. Simple reason is that it has the name for it. Judging by what they're doing now, it shouldn't take long. If they match the quality of the campus with the potential status of the name, they should do well.

Oh ok I see.... Like in Mobile the premier school is USA and Springhill is the most beautiful.
