Looks all right at first glance, especially for a suburban project. Let's see the site plan.

Update on Westboro United Church Development. The article below describes the community meeting. It’s amazing anything gets built at all in the community, I would have thought low rise office/residential and a music hall would have been an easy sell.

It really is amazing for years the arts and culture community says we need a concert hall etc.So now there is a plan to turn a church into a concert hall and many seem to be aginst it.

I wouldn't get too worked up over the contents of that article about the concert hall. I'm sure the meeting was pretty uneventful. They were just summarizing the discussion. I bet 1 person asked about the type of music played, they got their answer and the conversation ended.

What good is a concert hall [hockey arena; football stadium; train station; shopping area; etc.] if you can walk to it? It's supposed to be built somewhere else; preferably far away. With free parking.

I hear Rockland's eager to have a CFL team. AND it starts with 'R'.
Anyway, the Ampersand project is looking good.

But of course. Just another fun-loving, easy-going, love-how-the-city's-growing-up Ottawan. "Hey, bud, what kind of tunes?," I can hear the breezy, non-judgmental or hysterical question going.

"Think it's fantastic, all these new places going in. No such thing in my books as too many people heading out. So, yeah, what kinda music's coming to the 'hood?"

So lighten up, folks. They probably just wanted an in on season's tickets or something.

Not bad at all. We have a grid, we have on-street parking, we have ground-oriented houses that actually front onto a street... One of the blocks' interior seems to be surface parking and the other seems to have it underground, I wonder why the discrepancy. Other than that, this is a promising suburban development.

More development for the Wellington/Holland area?

Quote:
http://www.juteaujohnsoncomba.com/ms_july2010.htm

1217-1225 Wellington Street & 98 Hinton Avenue North was purchased by a group of Private Individuals from 2033987 Ontario Inc. for $3,300,000 or $597/sf of building area. The property is improved with a newer one-storey retail strip plaza comprising three bays. The property also has excess land, which the purchaser intends to develop.
This is the NW corner of Wellington/Hinton with the Royal Oak and Money Mart, including the parking lot behind the building.

Science and Tech Museum Looking for New Home
Josh Pringle
Tuesday, September 28, 2010

The Canada Science and Technology Museum is launching a fourth search for a new home.

The museum corporation has advertised a $175-thousand study to make a business case for the move and to "suggest a path forward."

Plans for a new home have been dashed several times for the Canada Science and Technology Museum, including in 2006 when the Federal Government vetoed an $800 million plan.

The museum corporation has set its sights on a new home by 2017, and move out of its home in east Ottawa.
I really hope this ends up somewhere near DT Ottawa or Gatineau. I know they've tried a couple of times, but it's the only fitting location for such a popular and important museum. Possible sites in my mind: Bayview, the old Domtar site on Philemon Island, Hurdman (not ideal but is on rapid transit), or maybe on a newly-redeveloped Ottawa Technical High School (would be great to incorporate a multi-use building with the museum a la Lightbox. Any other ideas or inside info?

Gatineau politicians have in the past thrown the idea of Jacques-Cartier Park (along the river between the Macdonald-Cartier and Alexandra bridges, site of the huge Winterlude snowflake playground) around for this.

Another idea that was floated in Gatineau was the corner of Alexandre-Taché and St-Joseph. It has a military drill hall (manège militaire) at the moment and the park is usually shown on maps as Parc des Chars de Combat. Not the best location from a downtown perspective but it will soon be home to a Rapibus station. It is also on a route to Gatineau Park followed by a lot of visitors.

But overall the two best Gatineau sites are Domtar or Jacques-Cartier.

I seem to recall there was also talk of putting it at the Government Printing Bureau at 45 Sacré-Coeur when it was vacated a while back and people thought it would remain empty. But that space has been for the most part filled up since then, mostly by DND.

I think it would be awesome if they could move it to Philemon Island. It would help bring that important part of regional heritage back to life and to public accessibility. Throw in a pedestrian retail area and some restaurants along the canals and it could become a pretty sweet destination point, as well as give something for the people who live/will live on LeBreton to walk to. It would be a dream come true to see that happen, though I don't know if they would be allowed to put retail on the island.

I believe the site opposite the War museum is designated for a national institution, so its got to be a strong contender. I do like the idea of having more museums ringing the Ottawa River.
