Just to follow up on that steel theme here's tonights 911 memorial lights from the Jersey Memorial at Paulus Hook. Tower one is really starting to make it's presence felt:

Someone several pages back, posted a photograph from that memorial in New Jersey. It showed a statue covered in flowers and said there was a fascinating story to go along with the statue, but then didn't enlighten us on the story. I have searched online and can't seem to find the statue or its meaning. Anyone with information for a website I can find about the statue, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

I live way uptown and I could see the lights last night. Nine years later it's still upsetting.

You can clearly see the tridents in the memorial on the new webcam...

Edited back in: Yes, I said it's not called the Freedom Tower anymore. What's wrong with using the correct name of the building?

Port Authority officials predict that One World Trade Center will have taken its place as Lower Manhattan’s tallest building by the tenth anniversary of the attacks. Silverstein’s Tower 4 won’t be far behind, and both towers are expected to top out by the end of 2011 and open in 2013.

In a year’s time, construction of the 1,776-foot tower at One World Trade Center will have climbed as high as 90 stories, a spokesman for the agency said, and Port Authority crews will be well underway installing the soaring arched steel columns for the mezzanine levels of Santiago Calatrava’s $3.2 billion transit station. On the eastern half of the site, Silverstein’s Tower 4 will have reached as many as 45 stories, and the foundations for Towers 2 and 3 will be nearing street level by the beginning of Sept. 2011

Topping out by the end of 2011? That would be amazing. Towers 1 and 4 will grow together, then a short time later it will be Towers 2 and 3 rising together. Just like the old Twins - almost.
