I can't wait either. It's going to look a LOT better.

Me either...my wife works in the mall and it's a pain getting there right now.

I too can't wait for St. George to be done on the industrial park end (work in the park), my lord they've been dragging this out a LOT longer than necessary.

As for Sony500's comment...Sony I don't see how your time is any more valuable than mine and for you to say it is is insulting. If everyone merged over like they were supposed too into the right lane (speaking of road on way to Shediac) and drove the posted speed limit of 80km/hr through the construction zone, traffic would flow freely. It's the people, self-admittedly you, that speed up the left lane to get ahead of everyone and try and merge at the bottleneck that backs everything up. I know you don't see it that way but unfortunately you, by other comments, are the only one that sees it that way.

Ideally...the construction crew should not be able to leave it as a 'one lane' road on the weekend when there is going to be the most traffic.

Daniel St. Louis, top, could not have picked a hotter day than yesterday to continue the demolition of his building on Harper's Lane in Moncton. He was recovering items that were worth salvaging, including this bathtub that friend Joey Bacon guides as St. Louis lowers it out a second-floor window. The home will be levelled to permit the construction of a multi-unit residential building.

Personal note: Unless I'm mistaken, this house is located on the site in the east end that Valmond Robichaud is planning his condo development. Perhaps there will be some movement on this project in the near future.

No where does it say I speed up and I do not drive 110 km/h to get to the closest possible spot to get in to traffic and I DO NOT MAKE OTHER PEOPLE SLAM THEIR BRAKES ON, I cautiously drive up the left lane until I hit traffic or until I get to where the lane ends, then I put my signal light on and WAIT for someone to let me in. Now, if was NOT working, and did NOT have a delivery on board, or I was just going to the beach, or visit Uncle Earl, then I would not do this. I believe in customer satisfaction, and I try to get the part delivered ASAP so that the customer waiting for their car to be fixed will have the least amount of time waiting.
If all the cars were to split up and take up both lanes until you are forced to merge where the pylons go into the other lane, and the cars took their turn to go through the constructioin zone, then you wouldn't have the problem of "IDIOTS" like me, that go up the left lane.

Maybe people should not be name calling on here.

I think gentlemen, that it is time that we moved on from any further discussions regarding the traffic congestion as a result of the Scoudouc interchange project.

Damn hot out there isn't it!!

Anyone get any confirmation on what the new store is at Champlain?

I'd heard Bed, Bath, and Beyond...but that's rumor so far.

There has been no confirmation, but the general manager of Champlain Place is on record as stating the expansion is for a home decor type store so I think Bed, Bath & Beyond is a pretty safe bet......

In other news:

- I drove by the stadium at U de M and the new bleachers in the north end zone are really impressive! It's starting to look like a proper stadium now!! This really drives home to me how easy it would be to increase the seating at that facility to 25,000 or so. We certainly have a large leg up on any other city in the region (or the country for that matter) interested in a CFL franchise.

- The lot on the southeast corner of Lady Ada/Mapleton now has a sold sign up on it. This is where NBNYer says that a new three storey glass and steel medical/dental building is to be built.

- The external work on the new academic building at Crandall University is now finished. The redesigned parking lots at the university are complete. Gorge Road from the TCH to just past the university is in the process of being widened and curbed (with bike lanes) and a sidewalk is being installed as well.

Wal-Mart not planning store for Riverview
Published Wednesday September 1st, 2010

Department store chain shoots down talk of new store
by alan cochrane
Times & transcript staff

Retail giant Wal-Mart says it currently has no plans to set up another store in Riverview.

"We don't have any plans to build a store in Riverview, nor do we have any plans to open a distribution centre outside of Moncton," Wal-Mart spokeswoman Felicia Fefer said.

Rumours have been escalating in recent weeks that Wal-Mart will build a new large-format store, complete with full grocery service, in the Findlay Park area of Riverview. Wal-Mart already has two stores in Metro Moncton, one in Champlain Place and another on Plaza Boulevard.

There has also been a widespread rumour that that Wal-Mart was going to build a distribution centre in the Scoudouc Industrial Park. A new interchange has been under construction this year connecting the industrial park to the TransCanada Highway. Patsy Chamberlain, business development officer for Enterprise Southeast, which administers the park, said there have been no discussions with Wal-Mart for such a centre.

Riverview Mayor Clarence Sweetland says he knows of no discussions between Wal-Mart and town hall or local landowners. However, Sweetland says Riverview is definitely open for business and welcomes retailers to consider the town.

Shane Thomson, director of economic development for Riverview, said there have been discussions with several businesses looking to set up shop in the town but Wal-Mart is not one of them.

The Findlay Park area has been busy over the last year with construction of a new Canadian Tire outlet next to the new Sobeys grocery store, which opened earlier this year. There is also a large apartment complex taking shape on Whitepine Road at Celeveland Avenue, and a new animal medical care facility under construction at the corner of Gunningsville Boulevard and Pine Glen Road. But there are still several large lots that appear open to development near the new Sobeys and Canadian Tire.

A new Shopper's Drug Mart store is nearing completion at the corner of Coverdale Road and Buckingham Avenue, and the former Sobeys location on the other side of Coverdale is empty and open for business tenants.

Personal note: If Wal-Mart isn't building a regional distribution centre in Scoudouc, it sort of begs the question as to why they are spending several million dollars for the interchange. There aren't that many existing businesses in the park. It just sort of means that it will be an "interchange to nowhere"

haha! Perhaps the "interchange to nowhere" and its Alaskan counterpart, the "bridge to nowhere" share a common etiology: Politics! That and lobbying by the developers of the industrial park.

Besides, this wouldn't be the only symptom of such in the area... what with the not-so-far-down-the-road, oddly placed, new Shediac prison.

The case for an overpass and connecting road is pretty easy to make, even without a major project like walmart. If the town really wants to develop that park, they need proper highway access. Having a connection directly to the grid without having to go into Shediac or Moncton first saves a lot of time, money, and burns a lot less fuel.

St. George near Edinburgh...

Looks like they are getting prepped this morning to start re-paving the grooved section of St. George near Edinburgh by Fancy Pokket.

Train tracks/signals...I assume, not for sure. That takes some major work to alter anything around those and I'm assuming they are leaving any changes around that for last.

No doubt a case can be made. Still, with 2 nearby industrial parks, both with highway access and empty lots, and the region's only airport with only partial highway access, I just wonder if the decision taken was the best.

I agree completely........the value of the Scoudouc Industrial Park is marginal. Meanwhile, Caledonia Industrial Park has lots of land available for development, Dieppe Industrial Park is expanding and MID is entering a new phase of development.

Since Scoudouc apparently is not getting a Wal-Mart Distribution Centre, I wonder if the Money being spent on the Scoudouc interchange would not have been better spent widening the Harrisville/Dieppe Blvd. overpass over the 15 and developing a proper airport interchange on the 15.

Oh, don't take what I said to mean that the Scoudouc interchange was a top priority. For both practical, economic (and admittedly soon to be selfish) reasons, the airport bridge makes the most sense. However I personally would put scoudouc second in line, ahead of Dieppe Blvd. Having an extra bridge in teh area would take a lot of strain off of Dieppe Blvd. And I support the Scoudouc project for the reasons I mentioned before.

Just a brief note that the official groundbreaking for the new Peace Centre next to Central United Church in the downtown core will be held this Monday.

This will be a modern four storey office building and should be an important bit of infill in the downtown.

I was reading a market research report on the GMA this week. Their population estimate for the city is 137,000 and change. It'll be interesting to see what StatCan's next update is.
