Hope it isn't as bad as some forecasters are predicting. Last thing needed is any wind damage or structural damage to the site. Thanks again!
Most construction equipment is rated safe in up to 40mph winds. But not all construction activity is safe to do at 39mph. Some cranes are rated as low as 25mph.

The buildings should be fine, the tower cranes can actually be lowered and there booms lowered and secured to the structure. The Manitowac 16000 and 18000 can also lower there booms.

The novelty of a bank being housed near the street is not necessarily alone a selling factor. If you look closely at trends over the last few decades you’ll notice that many banking institutions and traditional Wall Street firms have shifted towards Midtown offices.

A few notables include Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley (HQ’d in Times Square), Bear Stearns, JP Morgan, Citigroup, Oppenheimer, Blackstone, Smith Barney, etc.

What that shows is that these firms will migrate where they can get value in space for their operations. I personally don’t see a financial with trading needs moving into 1 WTC, but rather 2 or 3 WTC as those buildings are designed to accommodate financial institutions.

Maybe, but then again all the buildings around it look taller in real life at street level and in the photos above than in the renderings too. I think it's because the POV of the rendering above is at about 900' high, whereas the photos are from much lower (and of course street level is much lower), so you're looking up at the structure and the perspective makes it seem taller.

I don't think a lot of people have truly grasped the scale of what's being built at the site, and won't really until the towers top out. After nearly a decade of staring at an empty site, people have forgotten just how much taller the towers were than everything around them. The new complex will double the number of towers taller than everything Downtown, with 3 supertalls, and one very near supertall. Add to that 30 Park Place, and what has recently been considered a "flat" skyline will suddenly become a very impressive one.

Only when the building tops out will we get our earliest true feel of how tall and massive this tower will become. Of course, it has to be seen in person to really appreciate that scale. Photograhs are always a tease.

Lovely images NYGuy. I loved to see that one rising, every day.

Some information from the PA's 2Q 2010 report about One WTC: (http://www.panynj.gov/wtcprogress/pdf/2Q2010_Report.pdf)

One World Trade Center
- Metal Decking to 27th Floor – Complete
This represents the metal decking on the 27th floor slab, which is approximately
270 feet above street level. Concrete slab work begins immediately following the
welding and approval of the deck. Currently metal decking has been placed to the
30th floor level.

- Steel Erection to 32nd Floor – Incomplete
Steel erection reached the 28th floor prior to the end of the second quarter and is
currently at the 36th floor. This delay has not altered the ultimate completion date
of One World Trade Center because of built-in float to the erection schedule.
Both the concrete and steel contractors continue to reduce their cycle time for
floor construction and are targeting to reduce it further to achieve a sustainable
production rhythm. Furthermore, the steel contractor has developed a plan to use
temporary structural steel to enable the “gap” between the concrete and steel to
increase from 8 to 10 floors, which will help speed steel erection because the steel
contractor will not need to wait as long for the concrete contractor to “catch up.”
This process will provide more distance between contractors work effort and
facilitate a further reduction in cycle time.

- Start Spray Fireproofing – Incomplete
Although incomplete by the last day of June, the spray on fireproofer began work
shortly after the 4th of July holiday. The spray on fireproofing work will continue
up the building behind the steel erection and deck installation. Starting this work
in early July has no negative impact on the building’s critical path schedule.

WTC forcast.

1/4 of an inch of rain and wind gusts up to 20mph.

Does anyone know how long it will take them to put up the spire of this building after its built to the roof? I wonder if it will come immediately?

Will the spire be waiting in a storage somewhere and craned up or will it be physically built on the top of the tower?
