Awesome view. I am falling in love with the facade the more and more I see it up close. I've always really liked it.

They have a sample block of the court house facade up at 5th & San Antonio..not sure if thats old news.

Nice shot. But, I must say must say that view of the Frost Tower highlights its unfortunate chunkiness! Too bad it wasn't taller & slimmer. With the footprint it was built with it might have been graceful if it had been 12-15 stories taller.

Re: the W... it is the only new tower that I keep looking at, I really like the way it keeps you guessing in a way.

Migol, you can get there by road, train, or boat! They have a great network to get between the towns. They also have a trail between all five towns that you can walk - long, but really beautiful.

To get on topic, the W is really fantastic looking. I love the boxy-ness, and the colors fit great with the other buildings in Austin.

Re: Frost squatiness--

At least it's been offset by some of the exceptionally skinny new towers! I'm guessing the girth must be an office building deal, where interior space is almost just as good as exterior. Most of the other former Austin talls were pretty squat, too... but they had designs that looked OK that way.

Great Picture but it's not so much Frost for me although I agree it should have been taller, its the lack of density around that area, I really hope we get some density around Frost that area of downtown is like a dead zone in the skyline. They need to develop those parking lots...

nothing major happening for a few years at least. Just announcements and paperwork, maybe a tear-down or two, but I wouldn't expect new construction on anything over 15 floors for probably 2 to 3 years.

I don't mind how chunky Frost is, it's actually a nice size, I just wish it was taller. That's actually the slim side. The east side of the building looks even wider because of that 23rd floor setback.

They're painting it. It hasn't been painted since 1992 I believe. I need to get down there and take some pics.

All pws and observations recorded 100 or better today exept for one. At spicewood and 360 by bull creek. That one did not reach that number today and has not this year. While most of Austin recorded 60 plus days last year of the century mark that local only had 4 days. That is amazing. Must be the vegitation and the cool water elevation exc. That is why the rich live in that part of town. Though still hot it is not near as bad as the rest of the metro.

Model units at W Hotel should be opening up in the next couple of days/weeks. They should also have a new sales office on site as well.

Hey WAustinResident, I was wondering if you know the answer to this. In all the renderings we've seen, the ACL auditorium was supposed to have a brown or copper looking exterior. For example:



But what I see on there now is a solid black stuff with rows of little round metal buttons. Is the copper-colored material supposed to go on top of that?

I believe they re-designed the facade of the ACL theater. Updated renderings are on th site which show the black version.

Experience---gallery---hotel, first photo. Looks like they scaled back on the landscaping (or tree placement) too.
