I was looking at the WLRT site, is there any agreement that the Shag Point station is going to be a bit of a shit show with the crosswalks? It seems like that might considerably affect traffic on Bow trail

^ Well, the traffic study concluded as much, so anyone that says otherwise is just hoping the opposite is true (unless the position in the median rather than on the north side makes a substantial enough difference in light cycle timing by doing a two stage signal or whatnot, but we don't have a study to show that)

It goes overtop of east bound Bow Trail and settles down into the future median between east and west bound Bow where the ramps to/from 10th Ave are currently (these will remain, just be moved closer to Bow Trail itself) and will be at grade before it passes under the Crowchild overpass.

A short section of concrete forms for the tunnel are in place west of 37th St @ 17th Ave. A lot of Lafarge concrete trucks pouring at Westbrook this aft. Viper Concrete was pumping today, our favourite company, "Dynamic" was pumping on Sunday.

Anyone know what the plans are for the area above the tunnel, between 35th and 38th street. I think a linear park would be a cool idea..the WestLRT video just shows a semi-transparent grey colour...

Could you explain what it is we're looking at here? Specifically, what is the standing wedge-shaped object/equipment centre-right? It looks like it's the same thing as the equipment centre-left but with sloped 'armour' on the sides. What do these things do?

I'm guessing it's a form for pouring concrete, the wedge shape looks to be a travel position, I bet they will swing those arms out so they are more or less vertical.

lowrise multifamily with retail at grade! Well... lower-rise than the Northern part of the site anyway. There will be a grand street of sorts running from 17th Avenue into the heart of the new community... approximately where the Walmart parking lot is right now.

The City owns the little commercial strip on the West side of 37th... I believe they will be putting the parking lot for the pizza place back once the work is done. I think the property will be sold to private development in the future.

It's really quite amazing as to how fast this WLRT project is being built - you would almost think that it could be finished in less than 18 months - but I guess that maybe it takes longer to get the materials for the tracks - yeah/no???

Hi,

I imagine it is like building a house.

The excavating, foundation poor, and framing goes up quickly, but all the fiddly bits that have to do with finishing (painting, tiling, lighting and plumbing fixtures) takes most of the time.

It'll be December 2012.
