Right, but the Stampede is a huge event that goes for 10 days. There are 4 beer gardens + Nashville North and most of them only sell Bud. I managed to find some Keiths, but at $7/can I didn't drink too much.

You mean Trek? Yes they do make good bikes and sometimes great ones. But more important are the components (leavers, cranks, pedals, brakes, etc.). Most of the stock component market has been cornered by Shimano. Shimano manufactures parts which vary in quality from ok to amongst the best. The higher end stuff at Shimano for mountain bikes (i'm assuming you want a mountain bike) is called SLX (formerly LX), XT, and XTR. But XTR is so expensive that you won't see a difference if you buy a bike with XT components on it. Very few bikes offer a full set of XTR and the price is through the roof anyways. Other good component manufacturers are Hayes and Sram -- to name only a few -- as well as Mavic for the wheels. The same applies to road bikes, but instead of LX and XT, the names of the Shimano parts are 105, Ultegra and Dura Ace.

Having said that, many companies make good bikes other than Trek... Cannondale, Gary Fisher, etc. Currently, there's a real buzz around Scott frames on mountain bikes.

It will come down to the price and what you want to do with it. Are you looking for a bike for general riding, one for commuting, are you interested in doing serious cross country biking.

If you are still undecided about which bike you want to buy, I strongly suggest you take a look at places like craigslist.com. You live in Calgary and there's a strong mountain bike community in that city because of the proximity to the slops and trails. This means lots of very good used bikes up for grabs. Serious cyclists are crazy about equipment and they always take good care of them. Further more, they frequently assemble and upgrade their own bikes with killer components. And they always keep an eye for the next best thing. You could get a really great bike which will have a few scratches for half the price if you would be willing to go second hand.

the Canadian version of Budweiser is very different from the american one. I would go as far as saying that it is my favorite of the generic mass produced beers. I have tried almost every beer in the store too. I drink a lot of imports and microbrews, but the 15 pack of bud cans is a Friday night favorite.

I find that "Budweiser" is sweet and the result as to why many like it. For those on a tight budget and don't mind you can always get "Lucky" ha.

Budweiser is the official beer sponsor and thus is the only beer allowed to be sold at official events/sites

Why do people with handicap stickers drive like they're handicapped?

Perhaps it refers to their mental state as well? More likely: most handicapped people are elderly folk. Elderly folk drive...erratically/slow, etc.

Why do people put Jesus fish on their cars? Is it a kind of secret handshake or something? Will they be kinder or more likely to help fellow Jesus-fishites?

How come, to have a converstation with any guys these days, you have to mention hot chicks in the first sentence or they write you off? What is up with that. Are guys really that afraid to be intellectual these days? Is that all they want to talk about is hot chicks, harleys and sports? How cliche do you have to be these days to talk to anyone? Its called a personality people. Get one!

I am now anticipating a bunch of quick "yes" answers from all of the guys.

Indeed. While there's nothing wrong with talking about those subjects from time to time, I'd rather spend the bulk of the conversation on things like current events, politics, movies, music, history, local planning, good beer and so on. Sports is alright in the right context, but sitting in on a 2 hour conversation about hockey (or whatever) is horrible for me.


But yeah, maybe you're talking to the wrong guys. I have no trouble talking about interesting subjects with friends or co-workers nowadays. Of course I could just be getting picky on who I speak with.
