Maybe Utah should be a bit more avante garde and start the next national design craze: Chinese Pagoda homes! Hey, I'm all for it, actually. The Tuscan design is getting a wee bit old...

I love the quote for the article. "We are a driving community, not an urban one" So hello Mr. Idiot councilman, if you keep doing the same thing you'll probably get the same results.

I applaud the developer, I like his vision.

An insider informed me that the location will very likely be on the Highland Highway west of the Micron facility. So whether that is between Cabella's and Mircron of between Cabella's and I-15, I guess that description fits both locations. But I am guessing that my source would have said by Cabella's if that were the location.

That sounds about on par with what Wasatch said, no?

The Bountiful comment was humorous to me as well, but in reality, he's right. They're not looking for an urban environment there. They figure they're close enough to SLC to have that covered. I like the proposal though. It's always interesting to see those kind of proposals in places that aren't even interested in them, while the places interested in them don't seem to even get the proposals.

Yes and no with what Wasatch said, however "west of Mircron" and between Cabella's and I-15 can mean drastically different areas of where the campus might be built.

In regards to the not looking for an urban environment in Bountiful. It's actually quoted in the article from a Council member that indeed they are, to an extent.

"This is the only area in town where we have an urban philosophy,” Jensen said, referring to land bounded by 400 North, 500 South, 100 West and 100 East.

So if city council has this urban philosophy that Jensen is referring to, then they really do need to look at things differently. I would suspect that they aren't looking for a major urban area in their city, but I would guess that this urban philosophy they have is a means to create a center for the community. Something that defines their downtown.

On a related note, as many of us have said, we would like to see more vertical development, it was also mentioned in the article that Davis county is 90% built out, so if communities are looking to continue to grow their residential and commercial population along with their tax base they need to start embracing more compact development.

It would certainly make sense Future Mayor that Adobe will be somewhere on the new 92 Parkway. It's coming along nicely. It's amazing how so many nice homes are being lifted and taken away. Also, the Murdock Canal, which runs parallel to much of the highway is being covered. I haven't thought of Thanksgiving Point as the middle of nowhere for a while now. In the near future I don't think anyone will be able to say that anymore. Like Wrendog said, it's about to explode. Northern Utah County's rural past will be a distant memory.

The owner of Layton construction had planned on building several hundred thousand SF of Class A office space in the same area you are talking about. It never hit the news, they were keeping it pretty hush hush. The buildings were to be six to seven stories. I dont know if these two companies are talking but it could be interesting.

Personally, I hope Adobe builds a tower in downtown Provo or Salt Lake City! That could really help either core area! Are either one of them in talks with Adobe?

No. From what has been talked about, such as from Wasatch (who works at Adobe), they want to be in, or very close, to Utah Valley because of the current workforce, but also closer to the SL airport. Because of this they're set on northern Utah County, or southern SL county.

Millhouse, that would be pretty nice. I realize the new Adobe campus would be business park in nature, so 6-7 stories would exceed my expectations.

While I do agree that it would be better for Adobe to built a tower downtown in Provo or Salt Lake it sounds like Lehi is the place. If the owners of Layton construction and adobe are working together on developing office buildings in that area that most likely will be some kind of a business park then I would take a few 6-7 story buildings over something shorter that will do nothing but take up more space. Guess we'll wait and see what happens.

Not bad. This new expansion looks like it will be their first building that's truly in the suburbs.

Not unless "The Pointe" project EVER gets started near by. I'm starting to think that project is dead.

Ya, I do too. I wish there was a way to find out if Provo SLC are talking with them. If they do choose to develop in southern SL valley or northern Utah Valley, I would prefer that they choose to build at Southtowne. At least, there they can build to a masterplan with some density and have a somewhat close link to light rail, instead of it being some windy suburban office park.

That would be so sweet if they did build a tower in downtown SLC. That could probably be 30 stories. Maybe we should get CCRI to talk to Adobe about building on the NE corner of State Street and 100 south.

I think it was posted in the SLC thread.

If anything, there will be mass transit serving the campus, as FrontRunner will be nearby, and by that point FrontRunner will be linking the entire Wasatch Front.

So what would we rather have?........Keep sprawling farther into the mountains?....or built a few mid-high rises that will take up far less land? When it comes with the east side as open land gets harder and harder to come by I can see more and more developers start to built upwards instead of outwards.

Now that's just crazy-talk SLC! Don't you know you can't think logically about that? How can you expect the poor pretentious-posing community of Cottonwood Heights to be smart with their spawl! They'd never allow mid-rises to be built there.... (Jedi power: you do not see the mid rises in the Fort Union/215 corridor... these are not the excuses you're looking for...)

Everytime I hear the complaints of building mid-rises against the east benches I cringe. "Oh, they'll block our view of the mountains!" Really? Maybe if you're on their front stoop... come on... good design will only enhance the view. Look how well the current mid-rises along the south-east corner of 215 work. The UofU's buildings look fantastic against the Wasatch! (Can't wait for the new Natural History Museum!)

Build 'em, Build Up!
