Anyone else getting calls from McIver's group?

They called my cell around 4:00PM. Asked me if I knew who McIver was and if I'm going to vote for him.

I said, "isn't he the guy who is constantly blinking and hogging all the cameras at City hall?"

Silence.

"No, I won't be voting for him. My vote is for Nenshi. Thanks!" *click*

yeah I got a call from "mciver 4 mayor" or something like that but I ignored it.

Any candidate who spams my cell phone or answering service automatically loses my vote. Any candidate who spams my home phone with a prerecorded message loses my vote. If an actual human phone me... depends.

I have no idea why some candidates seem to think their message is so important that it's worth interrupting whatever you might be doing to listen to them, especially in this day and age with automated systems making it possible for every candidate and their dog to call you with their message. Such calls immediately tell me that the candidate places getting their message out over my peace and quiet - why anyone would vote for someone like that is beyond me.

They wouldn't be using them if they didn't work. This board's favorite candidate will almost certainly use them as well (or a flavour of them). The amount one can raise is just too low, and the time too short to do the sheer amount of calls one would need with paid humans.

Likewise to do the calls with volunteers would take a hell of a lot of time - it is unrealistic to expect a candidate starting with no info in their database to be able to fill it without automated polling.

I spoke to both Naheed Neshi and Wayne Stewart at Marda Gras yesterday. I didn't get into details with Nenshi, but he comes across as competent and well spoken.

Is there a recent poll for the candidates?

I just did a poll myself. Nenshi has 100% support amongst me. I will report this to the Herald, Sun and VoteCalgary and they will take it as top news.

I stopped by Naheed's booth and we had a nice talk with him.

We're considering the use of them. I'd like to call everyone personally but it would be tough with 45 - 50k households in the Calgary Ward 1. I've taken the feedback here back to the team. We're going to look at other options. I want to connect personally and the dialers don't achieve that.

If not the dialers, what other suggestions would you all have around contacting community members? We're running a strong ground campaing with our door knocking since early March... so doing my best there.

Door knocking is the best way in my opinion. Going from door to door means that you are really putting in effort to talk to people face to face. If someone called me during dinner I would be pretty mad, but if they came to the door, I would really appreciate the effort. Face to face communication is very important. Kudos to you on putting in so much effort on that front.

In my ward (ward 8) this is really hard, because the majority of people live in apartments, so you can't just go door to door. People on street corners would be a lot more effective in areas such as the Beltline (for those of you who live here think about how many times you have seen the Red Cross people).
