Only thing, it won't be as peaceful as the one in Montague.
Traffic on the NRR is terrible!

More construction, yes!

I noticed that my last time in Charlottetown! It's going to be quite a campus, with this, Glendenning Hall, Centre for Applied Sciences and Technology, and the green space out front. I got a chance to look at the floor plans for this once, and it was quite nice. The CCE includes:
-Gym with bleachers
-Track on second level, above the gym
-Student lounge
-Fitness centre
-Classrooms for sport-related courses

Going to be a great building, and fantastic for the College.

I know, it's a shame. But look on the bright side, Tim won, and the hotel and convention centre are being built! Hopefully we won't encounter this much NIMBYism again downtown.

I like the Charlotte Court redevelopment, although it's not as quiet as some might like. Very nice building, though!
The complex in Montague is in one of my favourite neighbourhoods. There are basically 4 big subdivisions in the Montague area (Asket Estates, Bald Eagle, Sam Hill and Three Rivers Landing), and this one is easily the closest to the centre of Montague, and within 5 minutes of golf, shopping, schools, the waterfront and basically anything you need. Also, as you can see it's quite private with big lots. Anyway, good to see development, let's keep this going PEI!

Charlottetown will definitely have a better skyline after these projects, and a better "downtown feel." Hopefully the two hotels, convention centre and everything else will create even more construction!

New liquor store opens in Stratford

STRATFORD — A new liquor store has opened here adjacent to Sobeys in the Kinlock Plaza following months of renovations to replace the old location.


Totaling 7,200 square feet the new store, which cost approximately $700,000 to build, stands 2,000 square feet larger than the original Stratford location and offers a variety of new features including increased product, a full length beer fridge to replace the walk in freezer and chilled wine just to name a few.


"I love it," said store manager Linda Somers. "More customers, easy access...it's just more upgraded."


Customers have also noted the changes and upgrades from the old store.


"The parking is much better," said Brian MacAdam. "A lot more convenient location too."


He added the increase in the size of the store is also an attractive feature, however he'd rather see the walk-in style freezer as opposed to the full-length beer fridge.


According to Jamie MacLeod, director of licensing and security with the P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission, the decision to relocate the store was due in part to a number of issues including the size and location of the existing store.


Likewise, the success of the liquor store attached to Sobeys in Summerside played a role in the decision to move into the Kinlock Plaza.


"The experience the commission had with our Granville Street location has been a positive one for both Sobeys and ourselves," said MacLeod.


Initially there had been some controversy over whether the new store was necessary, however MacLeod said there has been considerable positive feedback from customers since the store opened earlier this week.

Soccer Hurricanes get new home

CORNWALL — The Town of Cornwall will act as host to the Holland College Hurricanes men’s and women’s soccer teams this fall.

The Hurricanes will practise and play all of their home games on the turf soccer field at the Terry Fox Sports Complex, located next to Eliot River school.

“Hosting the Holland College soccer program is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase our first-class facility to a larger audience,” said Cornwall Mayor Patrick MacFayden.

“We are very happy to be the new Home of the Hurricanes and look forward to a great working relationship with their athletic department.”

The Cornwall sports facility is currently undergoing construction of its Phase 2 development and when completed will feature two turf sports fields (football and soccer), a baseball field, a softball field, four tennis courts, two basketball courts, beach volleyball courts, a 200-car parking lot and a new clubhouse.

“We are very impressed with the investment Cornwall is making into their sports facilities and their willingness to partner with our varsity program,” said Albert Roche, manager of student services and athletics at Holland College. “As we prepare for the coming soccer season our teams are pleased to have access to what will be an exceptional venue. It is an exciting time for our varsity program to come on board as the facility takes shape and we look forward to showcasing the new home of the ’Canes.”

In their four seasons as members of the Atlantic Colleges Athletic Association, the Holland College men’s and women’s soccer teams have claimed ACAA championships in the past two years (men in 2009, women in 2008) and look to have strong teams in action this fall.

The Hurricanes will hold tryouts in late August and will play their first home game on Sept. 19 against Nova Scotia Agricultural College.

The building is finally at it's upper floor. Even though the top floor is being put on, I believe the top floor puts the height higher than 10 floors. If you look carefully, the upper floor appears to be about 1 1/2 floors.

I thought the top floor seemed a little taller too, and I think that will be the "Presidential Suite." Can't wait for this to get to the later stages of construction, especially to see the original Holman facade on Grafton. Also, I think the National Bank Tower will have all its new cladding up in probably a month or two. Now that will be a welcome change, it was starting to look a bit old and rusty.
And before you know it, we'll have the convention centre and hotel to watch!

Does anyone know anything about a new car dealership in Summerside? There was a classified add in the Journal Pioneer today asking for a sales manager for a "New Car Franchise" coming fall 2010. There was recently a building on water street renovated and the parking lot in from paved, but its not very big. I am kinda thinking Kia, or Mazda, its not big enough for Hyundai as there is no other buildings being build at this time or places in which you could put a car dealership. Currently we have GM, Chrysler, Ford, Honda, and Toyota.

Summerside City Council has cleared the way for a $2-million car dealership project in the North Granville Street commercial area, following two special meetings Thursday afternoon.

The city’s technical services committee made its recommendation to council to approve the plan and council followed suit immediately giving the go-ahead to the project.

The proposed project will consist of a 10,500-square-foot building with new and used automobiles and a full service facility located the corner of Central Street and Pope Road. Once completed the dealership will provide 12 new jobs to the area.

The city received applications from Mac’s Investments Inc. & Clark Enterprise Ltd. to amend the city’s official plan and zoning bylaw to allow the project to proceed. The land designated for the new automobile dealership was zoned as high density residential and needed to be changed to commercial land use.

While recommending the changes be approved, the city’s technical services department noted recent developments in the North Granville Street commercial area, including the expansion of the County Fair Mall and plans for the development of the former Holland College site, dictate that there be improved access for this area.

“Of particular importance is the need to maintain good access onto Highway #2 from both Granville and Central Streets and to improve internal east-west road connections between them and other areas of the city,” recommended the staff in its report to city council. “Convenient pedestrian access is also needed, especially given the large surrounding areas designated for residential development.”

I heard a rumour that someone is going to open a new Hyundai dealership in S'side. So that's probably it!
