Here's the detail. Lots of excellent stuff in there.

Personal Favourites:

Making sure the voices of riders are heard. Naheed would immediately create a Calgary Transit Riders Advisory Committee

, which would have the ability to review transit decisions and make suggestions on improving service. He will also consider a change in governance to Calgary Transit to make it more accountable to customers.

Using technology to improve the lives of passengers. This could include quick implementation of technologies that are already in broad use in other places, like GPS next bus/train signs at stations, smart phone apps, and the use of payment cards and cell phone accounts for payment. Also, Transit might consider catching up with 1970’s technology and providing change at ticket machines!

Creating a new long-term plan for C-Train and bus networks. The most recent plan on Calgary Transit’s website is just a series of C-Train maps with no budgets, timelines, or priorities. It does not include, for example, better service to Forest Lawn, although this has been passed by Council. We need to figure out how to build the Calgary Transportation Plan, with a real work plan and budgets for the future. Ad Hocplanning must end, and we must create a Calgary Transit City Plan.

North-Central LRT. In particular, the current planned alignment for the future North Central LRT is deeply flawed. While the Nose Creek Valley alignment (adjacent to Deerfoot Trail) would be cheaper, no one actually lives there. It continues the old thinking of the LRT as merely being a way to get people from the suburbs to downtown, rather than as a tool of economic development and sustainable growth along its length. We should reinvestigate a North-Central Line serving the 100,000 people who live in communities.

I'd vote for him purely on the removal of the PnR charge.

And yes, it's clear to me that no one on council ever takes transit. Taking away their free parking stalls at City Hall would be a good first step, if you ask me. That one thing really isolates them from the average Calgarian. The rest of us understand full well the challenges with a) high parking costs in the core, b) how effective transit is, and even c) how the city is planned - ie: where you choose to live and work based on a) and b).

When you have free parking in the most expensive jurisdiction in Canada, you tend to lose sight of these issues pretty quick.

The Bigtime's will be down at the Sun and Salsa festival on Sunday, I believe Team Nenshi will be around, and Mrs. Bigtime will be going around with her Kent Hehr shirt on handing out pamphlets also. I need to get me one of those spiffy purple Nenshi buttons.

Lots of rumours swirling around and a very abrupt departure from CTV. One of the most recognizable Calgarians for sure. I wonder what her politics are.

Yeah this worries me, the only female (so far) and very well known in the city. If her politics are scary we could be in trouble.

Supposedly, she has Rod Love as her campaign manager. As Don Braid said in his June 14 column: "She would, in short, give Ald. Ric McIver a heck of a scare."

Too early to form an opinion on someone whose job for decades was to not to express them publically.

This is the thing, she was a very good news anchor, seems quite likeable. But, assuming she's running what are her ideas? would she be an effective mayor? It's really impossible to tell. Either way, it would certainly shake things up adding such a well known person, yet politically totally an unknown.

Barb Higgins running would be a complete game changer. People actually *like* her, and have liked her for 21 years.

While her actual views are unknown, everyone whose spent any real time in Calgary feels like they know her, unlike your ordinary politician.

All I can say is WOW if she does run~

I woulda figured Janz would be the first to go

I like a lot of people, but it doesn't mean I would vote for any of them to run a city. Besides being able to work the camera, I'm not sure what qualifies Barb to be mayor. Maybe she has some ideas though, I guess we'll have to see....but I hope her campaign (if it's a legit rumor) is not just based on nostalgic goodwill.

I wonder why everyone is assuming she is running for Mayor. A few years ago, she was quite ill and took some time off. Perhaps, unfortunately, she is ill again. If so, I certainly wish her godspeed in her recovery. If not, good luck in her mayoral run.

This is a guy who claimed that Preston Manning allowing liberals to attend his political activism seminars was the same as the CIA training Al Quaida, so it's not exactly a huge shocker that he would insinuate that Nenshi is a communistical nazi who wants to wipe christianity off the face of the calgary map.

Maybe Chandler is concerned that Nenshi actually has a secret plan to eliminate cheeseburgers from the city. I think that is what keeps him awake at night.
