Couldn't they have at least fitted the camera inside that hole with just the black glass dome showing?

Ugh...
And what is that cable? Someone's "stupid" idea and bad workmanship.

Wow, that's pretty bad.

The only reason that I could think of for the camera being there is that it is meant to be seen -- a deterrent to potential vandals.

But couldn't they at least make it LOOK nicer?

Perhaps its a reminder of how the Olympic security was under-budgeted in the Olympic plans.

another victim of the "Why spend money on a quality fit & finish when hardly anyone will see it, or know why its there" shoddy workmanship.

I probably spent more time & care putting in the X10 security camera at my place (you really need to know where it is to notice it)

btw:
Has the low-res whale been skuffed up yet?

Vancouver Convention Centre twitted me back regarding the camera issue.

"The camera is suspended on a temporary hanger; a permanent bracket will be installed this week, making it less visible."

This cauldron pool project seem to be done in a very "phased" approach.
Today the fountain has been half dismantled. The pool bottom surface is being waterproofed. Some of the cauldron glass removed and electric and signal cable exposed.

Great! The Cauldron and the Orca in Jack Poole Plaza are quite popular with tourists and locals. When the Cactus Club restuarant opens next year, the place will see even more visitors.

Who knows what they've been doing between mid-March and July 1st. Sigh...

maybe there was a short supply of water or something so they had to wait for that to correct itself so they would have water for the fountain

Use sea water? I think there's a bit nearby.

March to June isn't a huge amount of time to build something nice, but this fountain is rudimentary at best. Most outsiders (unaware of the excuses that the city will likely dish up), will probably wonder why all of this wasn't done BEFORE the olympics. They had 3-4 years to build the convention centre. It's not like they can't do more than one thing at a time.

They barely finished the cauldron for the Olympics. A few hours before the opening ceremony I saw guys up top with sparks flying.
