Whoever suggested that spot for an Airport should of been beaten with their own limbs.

San Jose CA has their airport about 1 mile from downtown, that's too bad because with the money in that city they could probably build some really nice skyscrapers. Downtown Airports are convenient, but they limit growth.

City Centre Airport was one of, if not the first airport in Alberta and at the time (1920s or 1910s I believe) Edmonton (and Calgary too) was fairly small (around 75,000 if you say 1910s or 110,000 or so if you say 1920s). I doubt people then imagined Edmonton would end up having skyscrapers 150m tall and have a population of 1,000,000+. They probably thought Edmonton would stay relatively smallish and not have any need for tall buildings, so the central location of the airport was convenient. That and, at the time, the airport was on the outskirts of the city.

The fact that it's still open is what surprises me.

I know people who fly in and out of Edmonton City Centre airport, and they like it, saves them a $40 cab ride into the city from Leduc. Does the municipal airport help or hinder the international?

Muni hurts, hence why we voted to close it and consolidate air traffic etc.

While we need public transit at YEG to provide cheaper options, you can take a shuttle from YEG to downtown for $15.00

That's what I figured. When was it supposed to close again? It would be nice to see some 40-50 storey buildings in DT, though I doubt there is very much demand for it right now.

Ya, a few 40-50 story apt/condo buildings would really be incredible in the foreground. Keynote residence is allright. Hopefully they'll get the second tower going in ayear or so!

Great shot. There are some really ugly buildings in there, fortunately the new buildings aren't so bad. EAP looks huge from that angle!
