I drive that stretch on a semi-regular basis. You're thinking of something else.

There's nothing of the sort in the Lower Mainland. There might be a 110 km sign to Hope or to Whistler, but that's distance, not speed.

Willingdon Westbound offramp changes

Another pmh1 notice has been posted in regards to the Willingdon Westbound offramp changes and overpass restrictions in preparation for the widening of the willingdon overpass.

Why do the middle dividing barriers have holes in them?

Perhaps it was a forum post that you saw a Coquihalla road sign? I have never ever seen a sign saying 110 east of the Coquihalla. As for other places in Canada... aren't a LOT of freeways in Alberta 110km/h?

Here's an article about the speed limit change on Highway for 3 years from the Vancouver Sun.

http://www.vancouversun.com/Highway+spee...Vancouver+three+years/3273762/story.html

Quote:
Sgt. Dave Savoy, unit commander of the Port Mann Highway Patrol, said police have no plans to boost enforcement in the construction zone but they will be on the watch for speeders, especially at night when work is still going on. The reduced speed limits are needed, he added, “for the safety of the construction workers.”

Cpl. James Cheung, of the RCMP’s highway division, noted speeding is worse at night when traffic volumes are lower. As a result, speeders tend to drive even faster. “Heading westbound to the bridge, there’s a traffic jam 16 hours a day. It’s quite impossible to go over the speed limit [during the day],” he said. “There may be no construction workers actually working [at night] but it’s still dangerous to speed.”

And don't forget, fines are doubled. So those they do catch will pay through the nose.

I like how the pedestrian route lines show you how to get to Costco.

I agree with that, minus one point. Alot of jurisdictions have "FINES DOUBLED - WHEN WORKERS PRESENT" if it's rush hour, and there's no activity, why double the fine. I slow down particularily if I see workers in the area, but a dead construction site with normal lane widths usually means I just travel at what I normally travel. Slowing down just causes people to tail gate me, and I like to keep optimal traffic speed for the rest of people driving around me.

Nothing worse than being in the left lane and having someone doing 80 km/h bang on in a construction zone.

Nope. Definitely not.

If they were, they'd look like this:

http://maps.google.ca/?ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear...D4ZDHDbiaeZL-nlnoQA&cbp=12,31.71,,0,6.89

You think pouring concrete would be cheaper than transporting those barriers in.

Generally not unless theres a good reason to. They poured them on site on the sea-to-sky project because temperatures were too low for the concrete to cure at their manufacturers location (in Pemberton, I think). So winter production was made on the highway.

That —. Poured concrete always looks so much sexier and streamlined...

They may have done poured concrete in the median around 160 Street and Highway 1. I haven't been there for a few months, but they had installed the light standards, and perhaps they would have poured concrete instead of bringing in those pre-fab things.

I'm actually impressed how fast this project is moving along. I won't be surprised if this bridge finishes early just like Golden Ears did.

I think people are starting to get so used to going at least 10 over the limit, they're believing that posted speed limits along Hwy 1 in the valley, and 99 are 110, when they've been 100 all along.
