okay one more point ... before i go find a razor blade and an Ozzy record

Bonn city transit terminal... okay it's a train but whatever

imagine that. Convention Centre on the west side.... Anyone know who owns the Convention Centre? *o that's right.. the City of Hamilton and Gabe Macaluso*. Who owns this bus shelter? O the City does. Really?

Can HECFI cooperate with HSR to do something like this? Open up that brick-shit-wall *a side of the street that you can't walk down by the way* Would this help attract conventions? Would this make people want to take the bus?

I don't know what to say... the lack of imagination and vision is beyond disappointing. Money money whatever... some things are worth spending good money on. This shows we DON'T want people to take transit. The Age of Stupid is now.

Aight where's my Heineken and put on that Sabbath album.

my son said "even if I was the guy who drew the picture *my Dad*.... i would've gave it a 7 out of 10, so that pretty much means that concept is negative two billion"..... lol from my 9 year old son.

Holly crap realcity, what a monologue.

Really? You're complaining about having the green roof?

The shelters are fine. No one should be waiting outside for hours. You come out and line up when you see the bus. This design discourages loitering.

The green roof is token. It's a distraction to how shit this gigantic bus shelter is. Even waiting 15 minutes in this space is dehumanizing.

You're right it does discourage loitering. Who the hell would want to be in a space like this? It's also easy to police, city workers can easily powerwash it, and the benches are of the type that are only comfortable for 10 minutes. All deliberate features... to discourage loitering. but the function of this suffers at the expense of the aforementioned.

Look Green Roof whatever... I've put green roof proposals together for retail box clients... They're cheaper to maintain and build. So anyone who doesn't do a green roof now is stupid. Big Whoop... practically everything is getting built with a green or white roof.. not bc it's super cool status. it just makes eco*nomical $ sense.

ZAZ you took one comment from my monologue of a hundred good points and took that one to task. I don't care if it has a green roof or a gold roof... it sucks... It's a row of bus shelters.... like what is there now.

May I remind you what it should be

Feel free to tell me what's good about it. I'd like to hear it.

I understand the shelters are being built on along the medium on McNabb between Main and King, but where is the actual transit terminal being built?

Meaning the glass building? That's the passenger transit terminal. It's going to be built beside the CIBC building, which is currently the entrance and exit for that surface parking lot.

I believe this will be Canada’s first bus terminal with heated platforms. Maybe North America?

^ gotcha.

Thanks, I was just curious because I work right in the area and couldn't picture where the glass building would be built.

And heated platforms are a great idea.

i think it'll just be fine in the winter time, people can wait inside the terminal and when the bus comes just take 3,4 steps and they're at their bus. these renderings don't make it look very appealing but let's wait til its close to finished before we criticize the aesthetics of it.

Plus with the GPS there will be a big board inside the terminal where it'll countdown for the next bus, for example 35 - 5 minutes.

Isn't a central bus terminal itself more of a small town concept? Bus systems in larger cities tend to be structured around higher order transit. Which is where we're supposed to be headed. When the A-line is done we won't have Upper Wentworth, Upper Wellington and Upper Sherman and all that junk running out of downtown. So I'd argue that while the design may look bush league, the whole structure of our transit system is.

My regular walk to the farmers market is down this stretch of MacNab and I'll say it's atrocious right now. The worn down wooden benches, busted ass shelters and broken clocks remind me I'm in a second rate city. The worst of it is the blank brick convention centre wall with no sidewalk - basically the delivery truck entrance to HCC. Yet another example of the city's compartmentalized approach to projects, not taking into account the brutal surroundings that can ruin the best planned public spaces. That said, I can accept the new design because it looks a million times better than what we've got, and it's only a transitory step towards a future rail-based transit system. If the A-line get shitcanned and we're left with bus centered transit, why hope for a better terminal?

When we have both A-line and B-line LRT running, I'd envision the MacNab terminal as an LRT terminal. We could have a loop around King, James, Main and MacNab, and trains coming west through Gore Park would turn left on MacNab and then right on Main to continue towards westdale. Trains headed up the mountain would go left on Main and right on James.

Damn, I must be dreaming again. I need someone to come on and remind me that trains can't turn corners, LRT can only run on one street, and none of this shit matters because it would block traffic and downtown is dead anyways.

I know a lot of you guys don't agree with me on this.
But I was in Hamilton yesterday, and I really don't have a good feeling about the construction of the new bus terminal, and taking buses out of Gore Park.

I think constructing the bus terminal, is going to cause downtown to be a lot more quiet, and the Gore Park area will basically be devoid of most life.

The buses are what animate that area, and removing all that is not going to help.

I've wondered the same thing, but I'll see how it turns out.

Gore Park will be a lot quieter, but I think the north sidewalk on King will still be pretty busy.

Hopefully any lack of people in Gore Park doesn't permit young gangsta wannabes to fully take ownership of the space.

The downtown AQI will improve, if nothing else. Buses idling in Gore Park has a deleterious effect on downtown air -- there isn't as much wind down there as you'd think. So that's kind of a bonus.

North face will be hopping, but the south side won't be dead. Unless the city locks it down with barriers, it won't take long for drivers to realize that they've got a new two-lane shortcut.

As soon as the buses relocates the City will roll out the Gore Park pilot project until funding for the Gore Park Master plan is finalized.
