"The phased growth of the terminals and concourses will meet projected growth of aircraft operations for the next 10 years and will maintain Salt Lake's ability to be a national and international hub." - the article just cited in the prevous post

So, if I understand that right, in 2021 the SLC airport will become insufficient to meet its needs? That can't be right, can it? I mean, I would think an airport would want to build for about 20 years of growth to make the renovations worth the money, especially considering the fact that it will take a years to finish the renovations. Anyone understand this more clearly?

The Questar building is about the size and shape of the one they're in. They could add the entrance structure to their current building and it would look very similar. They should stay in the building they're in and leave the site for something better. There have been great expectations for that corner: office building, hotel.

Yes, according to the Deseret News article. On KSL (I think?) Mayor Becker was emphasizing how close it was to TRAX access on both the 4th South and Main Street lines.

Those expectations can still be fulfilled--the corner of 400 S and State is still open. This new Questar building is 333 S State--the corner is still a big ol' surface parking lot.

I think the new Questar Building is attractive. I think it's great that there will be retail space on State Street bringing more activity to that portion of the street.

It's great to see the enormous parking lot beginning to disappear. Even with this building there will be plenty of room left in that parking lot for future development of some kind. I do hope that they do consider pedestrian traffic through that block when they formulate a master plan for development.

It will be good to see the new Questar building in this part of town. I think it will fit perfectly into that space.

I took this one June of last year.

T-Mac, your pic illustrates how positive it will be to see a good portion of that parking lot filled with this new development. Perhaps your taking pics of these parking lots is a bit of a lucky charm.

In that case, T-Mac, can you take a picture of my parents' house? It needs a ton of work that never seems to get done ...

It is like conflicting design central.

Relax, it is just my opinion.

It is the vertical Glass section that looks totally out of place.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

It's been a few busy days here in salt lake city with new projects such as....

July 6 :Questar making the announcement on their new 6-story building.
Yesterday : U breaks ground on neuropsychiatric institute expansion.
Today : Harmons breaks ground on their downtown store. July 8th ground breaking. What a great birthday gift.

Salt Lake is on a roll.

I didn't know the Harmons groundbreaking was today. That's good. They took long enough.

There's a nice writeup and some renderings here: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/money/49883089-79/store-creek-harmons-chain.html.csp

I like the rendering of the new Questar building.

I hope if wraps around the little bank building to the north of it. It can't wrap around or next to Metro, although the residential portion of the Metro is shaped like and L the parking and patio area on the bottom floors makes it a square. Plus that would make the Questar building a really narrow and deep building. I hope they leave space in the back for future access north to south through the block. As was mentioned long ago, that is still a nice site line.

It is just as has been stated, this building is "somewhat attractive infill", no more no less, providing workers and retail options further south in downtown. Obviously the owners of the lot who are building this building, and leasing it to Questar, know the value of the corner parcel and plan to develop that corner in the future.

No, I don't like the vertical glass section either. It just doesn't look like it belongs on that building, if any building. The style of that piece is weird and conflicting with the rest, and it looks like a rather pathetic attempt to make the building "taller."

The rest looks good though--assuming that they're using brick and stone, and not stucco and tile. It would be a shame if it ended up looking like this (with that budget, it's not impossible):

This looks like something that belongs in a suburban office park. There is also a surface parking lot , unless there are plans for future expansion onto the lot. At least the building appears to have some ground floor retail or is it a hang out spot for the employees?

Well it's already a big surface parking lot, this building will just take up part of that parking lot. And yes, restaurants / retail at ground level.

Now if we could just get the Courthouse and Safety Complex going we'll be in a real roll...

Forget the Courthouse and Safety Complex, I want the theater build! Let's get that ball rolling.

(Just kidding, but I really want to see that theater and the Broadway that it could attract)

I don't know if any of you went to the first Twilight Concert of this years season, but it was packed! The news was saying close to 40,000 people was contained in one of our gigantic blocks at Pioneer Park.

Firstly, I liked it at Pioneer Park, but if you could somehow get that atmosphere in a Gallivan Center setting, that would be awesome. Hopefully the Gallivan renovation will allow the concerts to return there with less complaints.

The other thing I wanted to say. I went to the Coachella Music Festival in California this year, and the stage and crowd at Twilight reminded me of the Outdoor Theater, which is Coachella's 2nd biggest stage (I saw She & Him play on it and I'll see them play the Twilight). The only problem is that Utah crowds seem to have an obsession with overly pushing and shoving near the front of the stage.

Coachella had close to 100,000 attendees per day and I don't recall once trying to listen to the bands and fight for my life. I'd say 85% of the 30 bands I saw, I was right up front. Crowded, yes. Dangerous, no.
