This is getting genuinely exciting! We're starting to count floors, and wonder how big the final result will be. (all the better with the glass in place, of course).

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, honestly, but I have a hunch that's what we may end up getting with The Georgia.

^ Thanks for the photos.

I wonder how the corner of Howe and Georgia will feel if Cadillac Fairview proceeds with filling in the corner with the rotunda with their planned two-storey addition. The street level retail will be a nice change from the blank walls of the TD and IBM towers but the rotunda and its open space are nicely paired with the Art Gallery plaza as counterbalances to the tight street conditions of the Hotel Georgia and the TD tower.

I like the rotunda as well, as SFU Vancouver said it compliments the openness of the art gallery very well and counterbalances the two solid corners at the intersection.

I wish they'd do something about the LAMP POSTS in downtown. They're a hodge-podge of different styles, (refer to pictures above) and for the most part look cheap and "temporary" as if we're waiting for the final models to come along.

The style used out at the airport is the style used in Toronto and San Francisco. It's an added expense, I know, but couldn't we have those? For downtown, anyway?

^ I am pretty sure the "short" light standards on the left side of Howe street are the new downtown model. The same ones have been installed on Granville.

I like them. They have cleaner lines and direct more of the light onto the curb lane and the sidewalk instead of the middle of the street.

I know the ones you mean. Seen pictures of them. I like them, too, and just hope that they are installed uniformly in the CBD, and not in a random "a block here, a block" there" fashion. The lamp standards on Georgia are OK, but others, like the older ones on Howe, Robson, and a few other streets look like relics from wartime.

Well its not an if at all, in fact in a way the project is already well underway. The lobby re-positioning occurring at 701 west georgia (The IBM Building) is the first phase of the project as the lobby needed to be moved to make way for the new addition. CF is currently in the process of landing an anchor tenant and when the work is completed on 701 work will likely start immediately.

You mean that plaza with the rotunda will disappear and become part of the building right up to the street corner? That sucks. Big Time. A public demonstration is in order - at the very least.
And for a lousy two-storey addition!!! The whole thing stinks!!
It's a cheap, nasty, travesty to the whole effort to make downtown more liveable.

What? I totally disagree with you I hate that rotunda.

Also, is pacific centre planning on expanding into that dead space behind the canada line station at granville and georgia?

Yes the dead space between the station and sears/TD tower lobby will eventually be filled although there is currently no time line for it.

Trofiren, I don't know what to tell you, this is happening and it isn't really that bad. Its a small public space on private land on a busy street, I see the expansion as a vast improvement.
