With the Smart Card system, I hope they allow customers to purchase monthly passes not set to calendar months. For example, from the 14th of Month A to the 14th of Month B. Those passes along with 7-day travelcards have helped me save quite a bit of sterling.

Write a letter and ask for it - I'd bet it would be easy enough to implement during the development stages, but rather easy to forget to include as an option and then hard to fix later.

Finally got to hear the new "voice" on the C-Train. I can understand why they say she speaks more clearly, but yikes. How bland, bland, bland. I'm going to miss the old gal.

They interviewed her on CBC radio 1010 a couple of weeks ago. She lives in Lake Tahoe.

It looks like work may have started on the tunnel under 64th Ave north of McKnight Westwinds station - a how was on site, digging.

At Whitehorn station, the construction area south of the platform has been fenced off, actual construction work should start shortly.

looks like the c-train was just shut down along all of 7th ave. I messaged a friend a few trains up and he was saying something about a kid getting hit by the train. very sad story if it's true

So Calgary and area are getting $800M of Green Trip funding. 15 more LRV's, 100 more articulated buses is the initial part of Calgary's share, plus the planned commuter bus network for the surrounding towns and cities.

it is, a toddler was hit and killed. sounds like the the toddler and the grandfather was running to catch the train and the child fell underneath the train

And this, kids, is why you don't run into traffic.

A part of me is hoping criminal negligence / child endangerment charges get filed, but instead I imagine we'll see a 30km/h speed limit for the trains.

Getting a lot of conflicting stories in the news on this. Some are saying the kid "ran away from his parents", so take that for what it's worth. I suspect the train was pulling into the station and the kid fell in front of it, from the platform.

I hate to say it, but we almost need an education campaign to teach people that you do not in fact need to run towards the train. Another one will come in a few minutes, settle down. Seeing people running from half a block away on a daily basis... gee, I wonder where kids learn to do this. Especially during rush hour when the frequency is < 5 mins.

Tragic that a child had to suffer for our own collective stupidity.

If I want to run for a train that's my own prerogative and I may have very good reasons, maybe I'm late for a meeting, or a hot date, or maybe I want to just catch the damn train and not stand in the cold on a balmy -30C day in the winter.

I feel sorry for the loss of life, but whoever was responsible for the kid is the only person to blame. I blame society for a lot of things, this is not one of them.

So this is the first $153 million of the $800 million that is being spent on the additional LRVs, articulated buses and Commuter buses? That leaves a healthy chunk for to try and get the SE LRT going, which the article indicates is in the long term proposal for this money.

Good news. Hopefully they can leverage this funding with the federal government into a 1/3-1/3-1/3 kind of arrangement for SELRT.

Maybe they can set it up and get a good winning bid from ... um, isn't it SNC-lavelin doing the westLRT, to start on the SE as they finish the west in 2012 ... that would leverage the fact that a lost of the same equipment would be used and could be quickly turned around to start on the new line?

If they do a good job on or under budget on the west line like they did in Vancouver I can't see anyone undercutting them too much and it would be good from there perspective of cost saving to just hop in the same city from one line to the next.

^^That is a great point. With all the equipment and expertise currently working on the west line, it would be very cost effective to turn it all over to SE line construction as soon as its available.

That wouldn't happen because the City won't be sole sourcing a job of that magnitude. They would have to go through the whole P3 bidding process again.

More taxi stands to be installed downtown

I guess I have always been able to flag down a cab in a couple minutes, but it'd be nice to have a couple designated spots for cabs downtown.
