Also, Disney announced they are closing down ESPN Zones but the L.A. Live and Anaheim locations are the only two that will remain open.

That's one thing about downtown that needs to be seriously thought of: While I have no problem with buildings like Glo or Elleven in terms of design, they are horribly boring. I'm a huge fan of midrise buildings (7-15 stories) and in all honestly, I would rather to have numerous buildings in that height range downtown than nothing but 50 story skyscrapers as mid rises add so much more density. Downtown needs to progress in terms of architecture design.

If downtown were to be littered with numerous buildings along these design lines then I would be extremely happy.

There's been a lull in architectural creativity in LA for decades now.

Sadly, there are only glimpses of even the most minimal effort in more mature urban areas like West Hollywood and Beverly Hills, etc.

Projects like GLO are insulting. Who in the fucking world would choose to paint their building puke green?

LA's eclectic character and lack of design context may be to blame as well as just bad architecture firms hired.

Ironically, few cities have produced as many talented architechts as LA in the past few decades, yet la gets the short end of that stick often.

Regarding GLO, when I went by there this weekend it looked like they were painting the Eastern section of it a different color, but as I was only able to catch a fleeting glimpse of it, can any one else confirm/deny if I saw correctly?
Also, I'm not sure if this would technically be considered part of downtown, but does anyone know about the construction thats going on near 6th and Bonnie Brae?

If it's south of 6th and fairly large, I think that's a Korean church. Not 100% on the Korean part, but I'm fairly certain it's at least a church.

Sounds right; as I recall from the renderings, that wasn't going to add to LA's architectural rep (in a positive way) either.

Meruelo-Maddux Properties has plans to build a 21 story residential apartment tower on the corner of 11th Street and South Grand Avenue between Grand Avenue and the Desmond Building.

On June 29th at the Downtown Neighborhood Council Planning and Land Use Committee Meeting Richard Meruelo from Meruelo-Maddux Properties will be presenting this 11th and Grand Project to the committee.

^Thanks for the news! It's hard to get a real sense of the materials to be used from those diagrams (hopefully no more stucco) but a tower's a tower I suppose...

I admit, despite my gratefulness in someone investing in Downtown during a recession, i'm starting to get sick and tired of seeing the same stucco exterior over and over again. Is it really the best they can do?

That's a pretty reprehensible design. I hope the Planning and Land Use Committee smacks them down. I like the idea of a building there, but this design is terrible.

I agree. The building just doesn't come together. The flat roof to the mold growing out of one side of it. Hopefully, this gets redesigned. Or at least heavily modified.
