in regards to Chicago and Toronto: Chicago has many more 500'+ buildings than TO and 700' it's over with! Chi hands down..... but TO has currently a little more going for it than Chi. in ways that I won't get into. But comparring the two (Chi & TO) to the far east cities or a place like DuBai is a little unfair in a way. North America (US and Canada )have much higher standard of living than these other places and I would'nt trade $30 an hour labor for one of there $2.00 an hour labor!! I love some of the high-rises in these places, but not at the cost of our standard of living.

Sorry about the watermarks, all the free stitching software seems to have something like this (if someone suggests one that doesn't, I'll make a night panorama as well). Photo by me:

I have always used Autostitch (http://cvlab.epfl.ch/~brown/autostitch/autostitch.html) and find it to work well. It's free, doesn't have any watermarks, and alows you to play with any parameter you wish.

West end of downtown from the beltline. Crappy camera, so low quality.

You're correct that Dubai is being built using cheap labour, but the UAE doesn't have a lower standard of living. There GDP per capita is comparable to Canada. I agree that I wouldn't want the high rises if it meant cheap labour. Canada only does that to get cheap groceries, clothing, etc. At least Dubai isn't hypocritical about it: they employ cheap labour to get everything for less.

Glorious N A N A I M O ! ! !

I took these this afternoon as I drove down the Island from Qualicum.

Looks like a leaky condo tower there on the left.

There's the ferry boat to Vancouver.

It should get better once 18 York, 16 York, ICE I, ICE II, the aquarium, and the new Fairmont Hotel get built. Presently, there aren't a lot of people living/working around here. Once Ritz, Boutique, and Shangri-La are finished on the other side it should increase pedestrian traffic as well.

P.S. There's really only about 50 feet of sidewalk visible in that shot and there is someone on the other side of the tunnel.
P.S.S. That InterContinental Hotel looks absolutely horrible.
