Oooh ! I know Chanel is expanding their location on the women's clothing and shoe floor. So is this going to be a main floor boutique also? with its own entrance?
Went to JapaDog on Robson today. Oh my goodness it is so much better than the cart, and is quite busy!! And they have French fries. I did not try them, but it is comforting to know that they are there. Several new varieties of JapaDog to be had, too, but I stuck with the Kurobuta Terimayo. Still no sign of the promised Kobe beef dog or the Tempura dog. I anxiously await that.

was in teh bay today - their mens selection is getting so much better they carry Diesel, Diesel 55, Jack & Jones, Emporio Armani Underwear, Bench, Firetrap, etc etc
the main level is still undergoing renos - its gonna be the hand bags i wonder how it will be - maybe more like holt renfrew perhaps? they carry Tous there too - should be interesting to see - definately making some good changes
Desigual - has stores all over europe - looks colourful and fun - only at the downtown vancouver store though... so if you want something more than H&M... check out the bay...
and they carry Tous - also from Spain - before the renos - Tous had a small area in teh bay - i wonder if they will get more of an instore boutique kinda place with the renos...
They've been advertising their new stuff on the radio for a while now. Earlier in this thread there's some article (probably from that rag, The Globe and Mail) explaining how high-end clothing/etc is part of The Bay's turnaround model.
Changing to high end merchandise certainly helps but the Bay Downtown needs a massive overhaul for it to be able to attract the crowds it wants. You can advertise that you're now selling new high end brands, but nothing beats old fashioned advertising than a huge makeover. The interior is incredibly outdated.
For one thing, they probably don't need that much space. Imagine if the core of the building, where the escalators are, is hollowed out for an atrium like the Holt Renfrew building (the Bay most certainly does not need all that space it currently has). Make the building more open and inviting, but obviously keep the exterior look....perhaps except for the ground level where the doorways and windows are, afterall if you're trying to draw people in you need to change that. The interior needs major aesthetic renovations.
Perhaps then, with more crowds we could see more staff and better customer service.
i was in there last night and the mens floor looks great its not outdated - they even have signage to point yuour way to Canada Line - the main floor is really snappy too and the womens floors look great - the one floor has really shiny tiles are really wow
I wonder how the new handbag dept will look - if its anything like that HBC room/area they set up -it will be nice

The Bay always carried those brands. Im surprised no one ever seen this.
I got word from a very good source that they are aiming to open a Jack & Jones retail store in Vancouver for spring 2011. That will be awesome! Its gonna be like a Forever 21 but for guys.

they never used to carry diesel or 55 dsl - which was very hard to find in the city a few years ago - why is there not a diesel store in vancouver already! even portland has one

its improved in the last decade and the new buyers have made it even better
this is the west where the bay is nowhere near as good as out east - just look at their availablitly most high end brands are at one store in vancouver where as toronto and montreal have at least 4 or 5 stores that offer them - i think only 3 stores in vancouver carry Polo, you sure can't get it coquitlam centre or lougheed mall or guildford
it wasn't a store it was a regional office place - once in a while they opened to the public and had sample sales - they are still pretty upthere - they are the financial backers/owners of DSquared
