Wow!! I had no idea that SLC's blocs were that much bigger! I always knew that they were big, but not that big. It's a good thing that City Creek is opening up those blocks!

Hmmmm....

I would love someone to tell me how they could ever consider SLC as the industrial banking capitol of the world. Was that a joke.

Take an entire SLC block and dedicate it to this development. I propose four SLIM towers, one for each corner and one of which should be the new city tallest. I'm thinking 2 350+ footers, a 450+ footer and a 600+ footer. There would be a circular plaza in the middle of the block with retail and eateries, covered by an intricate open-air steel lattice dome in the style of the SLC Olympic Medals Plaza.

I know I'm being completely speculative and pipe-dreamy, but I want to know what you guys think about such a development, where it would work best and what kind of moving and shaking would have to come about to make it into a reality.

Let the dreaming ensue!

Boise is building a large solar power plant west of their airport. Perhaps Salt Lake should follow suit because there is plenty of undeveloped land west of our airport.

A big ditto to that Orlando!! The incredible possibilities with Downtown
SLC's blocks is very exciting. I love this pic taken by H4vok. I think
Regent and Richards Streets are a harbinger of great things to
come.

I posted two (rather crappy) driving videos in the transportation section. The second one goes around City Creek a little.

Damn you drive fast Looked like something out of a Formula circuit. Did you change the speed on the video frames? The Honda Civic you pulled up behind at the traffic light, before the you got on to the highway is the same type and color as mine. Cool video; thanks for sharing.

Looks like some of them will be over parking lots so they will also create covered parking-it's a win-win!

The one thing that I have to say...

John Martin, T-Mac...almost every person that posts pictures are awesome and skilled.

I have never seen one distance picture focused on the downtown that made me think wow look at that building or look at the flow and growth. They almost always make the DT look stumpy.

Well actually there was one taken coming down from the U on that reverse S curve that I think goes into 5th South. There is a real chance that it could be another street. I think it was taken by Comrade Reynolds.

However, th best photographers on here (and there are many) make you feel the growth as they photograph from inside the down town.

I may be wrong but it seems to me that almost all of the construction is focused around Main and State. The East to West of those streets may have a bunch of 10 to 14 story buildings but they get lost in the massiveness of the blocks.

SLC is one tough downtown to photograph from a distance. Makes our photographers here all that more impressive.

I hope "goldman sachs" is still planning on moving in even after what has and still is happening to them.

From what I've heard, they've signed the lease. It's supposedly still a go.

Thanks for all the eye candy Tmac.

I completely agree. The beauty and glamor of the SLC skyline is hard to capture due to the stunning natural skyline which dwarfs anything man-made. Take a look at John Martin's first skyline pic for example. On the far right side is the Kennecott Smokestack standing over 1200 feet tall (approximately the same size as the Empire State Building), yet it's still small in comparison to the Oquirrh Mountain just to the south.

Goldman Sach

What division(s) of Goldman Sach will occupy the 222 S. Main space? Will they be the lead tenant?

Hehe, yes I'm a fast driver. Some parts were a bit faster than others.

Goldman

I talked to someone yesterday that works with CB Richard Ellis, the lease broker for the 222/Goldman Sachs deal. He said, irregardless of the scandal, Goldman will be moving in within a year. Their agreement was to move in one year from the time the deal was signed. I don't know how many floors they are going to occupy, but I believe that 222 will still have some vacancy even after Goldman moves in.

I was actually just speaking with my buddy (who works for Goldmans) yesterday about this. Goldmans will still be moving into 222 in December or January as they originally planned. They are actually going to split the office before the move. Half will stay at the current building in Research Park and half will be at the Chamber Building on the Corner of 2nd east and 4th south I believe. So it sounds like there is a mini move before the big move. If I recall from an earlier post, that had an article or something about the move, they will be occupying 7 floors.

Shakman, it is Goldman's operations division that is located here in Salt Lake. Of course, within the operations are many groups that work with almost all other divisions of Goldmans...trading, derivatives, prime brokerage, margin dept., securities, regulatory & tax, etc. etc. The entire operations division will be moving to 222 (at least that's my understanding).
