thats what i love about california cities. so many have such great tree cover. riverside as u mentioned, sacramento, and santa rosa of course

what i was implying was that flattering urban pics of la only occur after a self-conscious censoring and manipulation...a production (how appropriate, right?). ie through a favorite angle or an unrepresentatively photogenic site. la is not a point-and-shoot urbanism, because such flattering urbanism is not representative. in that sense, it's not "real". it's wishful.

you don't need seek out the arc du triomphe or columbus circle to show off beautiful urbanism in those cities because flattering urbanism is a way of life in paris or new york. it's ubiquitous. in la on the other hand, it's a carefully selected photo-op. a passing cloud.

i just think it's funny that if you are so confident of the "positive truths" about your city, you can be so sickened by what you percieve as "negative falsehoods". maybe you (and others like you) are just extremely insecure about your city's positives.

i don't know who you cryptically refer to here, but as for me i'm just having fun, and contrary to what some may wish to believe, i don't sit here "laying in wait" so to speak. i speak from within of what i confidently believe to be true of la and from my own personal experiences, and unlike some here, i don't cater or react to others. so yeah, i think it's funny watching others react to their own insecurities by marginalizing my unflattering opinions.

But edluva, out of respect for many others (I won't name them, but I think you know who i'm talking about) who are offended, shouldn't you be trying to keep your consitantly negative views to a minimum? Lately you've been on a tear, and almost never mention anything positive that has happened to LA, whether it comes to revitalization Downtown, or the expansion of our transit network.

I know this sounds strange because i've had this problem my entire time on this forum.

My disgust stems not from insecurity because I've accepted the problems about LA already. What I'm bothered by is the overwhelming pessimism that never seems to end. Nothing positive have EVER left these posts by these cynics here in LA's thread. EVER. They portray LA as a doomed city with no future (and don't tell me this isn't what these comments suggest, as there is never any appreciation for any positive developments or forward strides the people of LA are making). I would really much prefer if these cynics just left the thread since their comments are neither enjoyable to read nor helpful unlike healthy criticism or critique. Instead of providing a different outlook for a point of discussion where thread members can really debate about LA-related topics, these disgusting comments just bring a nasty cloud over the thread and does NOTHING to help facilitate debate.

Haven't YOU noticed this already? Everytime you post something nasty and snide, people get off topic. Yes, voice your opinion, as negative comments of LA can help spur good discussion. But don't be a douche about it.

I don't think anybody should have to censor themselves for the sake of someone being offended by their opinion as long as they remain respectful of others. While I haven't always agreed 100 percent with EdLuva, I have been able to appreciate his posts because he presents strong arguments. I think the problem isn't EdLuva, it's those that can't take his opinion and feel the need to personally attack him rather than take a position and substantiate it with a quality argument.

Getting mad at edluva for his negativity is a recurring theme on this forum, especially when new forumers join SSP. Just ignore him if it bothers you that much.

Edluva has readily conceded that he has "grown up" from his once idealistic outlook of not only LA development, but Asian American political advancement in LA. He isn't such a bad guy behind these forums. I've invited him to some of my eco-conscious events (regarding such pertinent discussion topics like PEAK OIL) and although he was demure about the invite, he did bow out graciously.

I've met enough people from SSP to know that there are two different personas: one on here where people vent, feed their ego, etc. and the other one in real life where they may be complete opposites.

For all we know, edluva could be the exact opposite offline driving his Prius in Koreatown to work at the Children's Hospital.

There's some sort of film shoot going on over on the roof of the American Apparel building.

I think it's a lighting test. They've been building a giant stage on top of the building for the last two weeks. Must be pretty big set up over there.

Reminded me of a Pink Floyd concert. (O.K. I've just dated myself.)

On another note, a Tweet from the DCBID yesterday mentioned that the Blackstone Building and the Spring Arcade Building would be open during this weekend's Downtown Housing Tour. Could the Spring Arcade building FINALLY be getting ready to open up after what seems like 50 years of conversion? If so, that's great news. That's a big property on Broadway that could turn residential.
