Poor guy, your useless banter and mindless opposition on futile visions of complete irrelevancy and make belief were comical, but will be very much a thing to laugh at in the past, when you get absolutely rolled over and demolished - hope you don’t respect your name, if that proposal of yours ever does hit the mainstream, hahah I can only imagine the laughs... Thank you for your heartfelt support.

Oddly enough, I get a kick out of your commentary, always nice to have a chuckle.

With respect to your belief that I have the support of community associations, I can assure you that is not the case.

That there is great public support, rest assured there is.

And will I put my name to it? Absolutely, as you have seen from my login, contrary to some

There is a relevant expression I would like to share with you:

"Don't believe in what you hear and only half of what you see"

Overheard last Saturday at the Great Glebe Garage Sale:

At House 1, on Adelaide St.: "This was supposed to be Ottawa's Central Park! Now they want to turn it into a shopping mall like St. Laurent!" (Oh, really, on both points?)

House 2, on Fourth or Third Avenue: "This Lansdown thing is going to bring too much traffic. Just look at the traffic today. What They REALLY should be doing is widening Bank Street." (Even her fellow Glebester looked at her like she was sprouting extra heads over that last bit.)

House 3, off Holmwood, had one of those signs left over from last year, whinging about the air conditioner on the top of that building at Holmwood and Bank. The irony that the air conditioner at that house was probably the loudest I've ever heard was probably lost on them.

Wow, Jematin! Though I still thoroughly hate your vision of Lansdowne, the Bayview idea is really great (in a 2005-meets-late-80's-architecture kinda way).

For those opposing the current proposal of a Lansdowne Stadium renovation, here is a photo of the north side demolition:

For those in flavour of a Lansdowne Stadium reno, the photo above is from the Ottawa Citizen, circa January 19, 1967.

How can the City of Ottawa have been so wrong back in the mid-60s to give the to demolish the old grandstand and build a new stadium at Lansdowne?

Very interesting shot.

Thank you for posting it.

And I agree, the original grandstand was truly beautiful and scaled for the site.

Mods, JEMartin has an entire thread for this crap. At this point it is impossible to actually discuss the real proposal for the site due to the disruptions that this individual is causing. Can we please deal with the trolling in some substantive way?

Well call me a viking and give me IKEA furniture; we can directly apply that to you and your proposal.

We don't believe what we're hearing from you and others in the Glebe. It's so enormously shallow, pedantic, selfish and often idiotic. And we're believing only half of what we see since your proposal lacks substance and you haven't offered much in the first place.

What in the world would the old grandstand be used for today? It would have been inadequate for professional football and the exhibition show circuit died years ago. It was antequated when it was demolished in 1966 especially with the sightlines blocked by the numerous metal pillars.

I guess we should have kept the old Auditorium as well.

Are the condo buildings going to be the City's to sell to the highest bidding developer, or are they part of the OSEG plan (i.e. they'll be Minto condos)???

I'd say a good old-fashioned shunning would work. All items inappropriately posted on this thread could be met with a general silence and ignored. Yes, it's hard not to engage, but that's exactly what's keeping this diversionary conversation going.

The equivalent will be to keep the lower half of the North Stands, about 7,000 seats. Just enough for Varsity games.

The south stands would be out of the way since they would simply be taken down.

Then the design competition, if the City wanted to could simply extend through to Bank Street and in and around the arena, coliseum and horticulture.

Just add a natural grass music bowl and another playing field and done!

Exactly.

Or - if you are extremely annoyed by a user's posts, the best solution is to use the 'block user' feature. Click on the person's name and under their profile, click on 'add to ignore list'.

Or, you could say that wanting to see a grass bowl and an extra playing field and seeing the design competition extended to the entire park is right on topic.

I think it's pretty on topic. Where it becomes a bit spammy though is your relentless pushing of your plan. We all know you've got a plan and your opinion is clear. The conversation needs a bit of room to breathe. That is not just JEMartin's fault. There seems to be a real hostility to alternative views among certain posters here. I know you are passionate about your views but take a deep breath and smile.

The funniest part of that comment is that judging from the photo that is that it appears to be the 1960s north side under construction as opposed to the earlier grandstand being demolished.

Sorry its not that simple you have to have a arena and a stadium with seating for around 5,0000.
