I would be content if they just reworked the center area around that north stairwell. It's not a building I would choose right now, given the choices of styles currently in vogue. However, I do think it much better than a large portion of the towers built during that period... Just that north stairwell really bothers me.

That's true, I hadn't thought about that. H. David Burton said it was the first phase of City Creek though.. I guess an ugly building would've made it look like a not-so-nice place to shop.

There was a piece on the news tonight about new welcome signs at state borders. There are a few different versions- I think the Salt Lake skyline picture is a bit generous:

it looks like they updated the sky line to include Tower 1 and the reskin on the Zion's Bank building. Now if we could only get Fox 13 news to update their "skyline" background that they use for all there news and weather reports.The last I saw (which was, granted, a while ago- they still had the old skyline with the now imploded Key Bank building.

Every time I watch fox 13 news I feel like I'm still living in 2004, back in the days of the old key bank tower and the old gateway east tower. I'm glad these signs have the updated skyline.

Looks like we now have time to build a convention hotel before a GOP or Democratic convention comes to Salt Lake City.

True. The Eaglegate Tower isn't taller then the Key Bank Tower in real life.

You are right, their is progress and even living out here I got tired of seeing the Key bank.

Still it looks way to "Howdy do"...then again, it might be the way everyone wants it.

It doesn't seem generous, though it obviously is displaying buildings that would normally be blocked from that view (I.E City Courthouse). It looks like 222 is in the picture, but backwards? Hard to tell.

I think the sign looks great by the way. Skyscrapers mixed with beautiful natural scenery.

I think that the only way that the painting is really generous is that it puts the skyline on a level plane, when in reality it slopes downhill, causing the buildings further south look much shorter. This is close to what the skyline would look if it was level ground.

Salt Lake City ranks 5th on Kiplinger's list of best cities

The Deseret News

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City will be the fifth-best city nationwide in which to do business in the next 10 years, according to Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine.

The magazine selected Salt Lake because of its internationally recognized research in genetics and health sciences that has spawned dozens of new and successful businesses. Also highlighted was the local labor pool that Kiplinger's labeled "tops for its technical knowledge and outstanding work ethic. Utah's relatively low wages, taxes and operating costs create an ideal haven to run a business — and you can't beat the easy access to myriad ski resorts."

In order, the top 10 cities in the Kiplinger's report are Austin, Texas; Seattle; Washington, D.C.; Boulder, Colo.; Salt Lake City; Rochester, N.Y.; Des Moines, Iowa; Burlington, Vt.; West Hartford, Conn.; and Topeka, Kan.

That's a great location for a skyscraper. It would help to fill in the gap between the City Creek Center area skyscrapers and the Gallivan Center area ones.

I think that's probably one of the top locations on my wish list. It would really add to the attractiveness of the site lines of Main and go a long way in filling the infamous gap.

Yeah, I agree. reclad the stairwell. I really like th COB for the most part. Primarily because it is extermely reminiscent of the World Trade Centers. Although different material, each had the thin narrow vertical windows and cladding. When I see the COB, it makes me nastolgic for the WTC. (height being the primary exception of course.)

There will be an office building built on the site in the next couple of years.
It is in design now. It will occupy the entire parking lot and will be 6 Stories high.
Disappointing we won't be seeing the Twins that were previously planned. The building is already leased out by a company. They will be moving from another building Downtown. It will have ground floor retail and some restaurants.
